JOB SUMMARY The Registered Nurse Applicant (RNA) provides direct and indirect care that is consistent with current evidence-based practice in collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and other members of the health care team, while under the direct supervision of a licensed RN preceptor.
The RNA will remain under the direct supervision of a licensed RN preceptor and may not engage in independent nursing practice.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under the supervision of the precepting RN: Assesses patient and/or conducts screenings and documents utilizing standard scales when indicated as required per organization.
Prioritizes and documents patient problems based on assessed needs/problems in collaboration with patient, family, and health care team.
Documents changes in patient condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care/intervention.
Utilizes organization-wide safe medication practices including, but not limited to the 5 rights of medication administration, barcode scanning and other medication safety processes specific to the unit/department.# Knows actions and usual dosage, indications and side effects of medications administered.
Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant other as needed according to the care, treatment services and identified risks specific to the patient and documents patient and/or family understanding.
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS Minimum requirement: Graduate of a school of nursing for Registered Nurses.# Current Provisional License in the Commonwealth of KY.
Successful completion of NCLEX within 30 days of start.
Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
