Director, University of Arizona Cancer Center

The University of Arizona Health Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of Director, University of Arizona Cancer Center. The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is an integral component of the University of Arizona Health Sciences. The Center was founded in 1976 and is one of 56 National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, a distinction that places it among the celebrated top tier of cancer centers across the country.

The Director will be a nationally recognized physician-scientist or scientist with a strong track record of federally funded research and a deep knowledge of important directions in discovery and innovation in research and clinical care in oncology. They will have demonstrated an ability to recruit, lead and grow programs in a complex academic environment, ensuring that the academic and clinical activities of the Cancer Center continue to bring value to its many internal and external stakeholders and distinction to the UACC nationally and internationally. They will drive a patient- centered service culture that further elevates the UACC as a nationally recognized leader and a cancer care destination for superior personalized, quality and clinical outcomes. The new Director will have played a key role in innovative translational and/or clinical research and understand how to leverage the excellent bench science at the Cancer Center. They will also have experience with utilizing population health and effective health care delivery systems to bring state-of-the-art care to historically underserved populations, particularly Hispanic and Native American people.

Critical to their success, the new Director must be an expert at building internal and external relationships, with a demonstrated track record of working collaboratively with academic partners, physician-scientists, physician leaders, diverse management teams and affiliated partners, as well as community, state and federal stakeholders. The new Director will be responsible for all functions related to the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), including renewal applications, planning and execution of meetings of the external and internal advisory boards, growth of the research programs, and identification of needs for research technologies and services in core facilities. The candidate must be committed to identifying and promoting opportunities for faculty and trainees to collaborate across UArizona’s extraordinary environment in all three primary missions. In addition, they will be seen as a champion for diversity, equity and inclusion and will be measured, in part, by success in the developing, mentoring and promoting women and underrepresented minorities.

Qualified candidates must hold an MD, MD/PhD, PhD (or equivalent) from an accredited institution. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Associate or Professor level at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson. Clinically active candidates must be board certified and eligible for licensure in the state of Arizona.
