Title: Service Coordinator - Washington Street Shelter

Department: Special Relief

Reports to: Shelter Program Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Safety Sensitive: Yes

Position Summary: Reporting to the Shelter Program Manager, the Service Coordinator works in partnership with other program staff to provide a safe and welcoming shelter environment. This includes assisting with stocking supplies for the program, overseeing meal service, spot cleaning or sanitizing, preparing spaces for new residents to move into, and packing up items left behind by residents leaving the program. The ideal candidate has a welcoming and friendly attitude toward residents and staff and the ability to collaborate with multiple SVdP departments. This representative must be energetic, resourceful, and reliable with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with vulnerable populations. This candidate will exhibit the demonstrated ability and desire to maintain and promote an organized, safe, and efficient work environment. This individual will partner with other program personnel to make decisions in the best interest of the safety of the entire group. This requires the ability to think and act quickly when there is a need to pivot or address urgent needs and emergencies.

Requirements:

Level One Fingerprint Clearance or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.

CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.

Excellent communication, organization skills, and ability to interact with residents, staff, and volunteers required.

Related experience working with vulnerable populations, volunteers, and staff in a temporary shelter environment preferred.

ADA Requirements: Abilities to stand and walk, lift up to 50 pounds, sit, bend, and reach are required for this position. Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate orally and in writing required. Strong computer skill, proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs, and excellent electronic communication and documentation preferred. Accommodations may be made available if need is expressed.

Specific Duties:

Ensure that appropriate operational stock of all food and beverage items are communicated to be ordered by the Shift Lead

Oversee meal service for residents in the shelter dining area.

Perform monthly safety inspections including fire extinguisher checks.

Organize and maintain stock of hygiene, clothing, and companion animal supplies.

Distribute supplies to shelter residents according to standards and schedules for distribution.

Assist residents to their bed location upon intake.

Ensure that bed spaces are maintained in sanitary and safe condition by shelter residents.

Store or remove items left by shelter residents discharging from the program according to shelter policy.

Monitor, report, and address any hazardous conditions via spot cleaning, sanitizing, remediation of biohazard, and assisting with housekeeping tasks as needed.

Coordinate incident intervention with other staff and security when needed.

Support positive volunteer experiences by teaching, being inclusive, answering questions, and demonstrating gratitude for volunteer assistance.

Assist residents to move into permanent housing as needed.

Attend staff meetings, trainings, and agency events as requested or required.

Other duties as identified by Shelter Management.

Participate in and serve as a model for SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy and ensure that SVdP volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated.
