POSITION TITLE

Industrial Maintenance Instructor and Machinist

APPOINTMENT

Appointed by the Chancellor of the College upon recommendation of the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

This is a 9-month, full time faculty position. The incumbent will teach approximately 9 credit hours each fall and spring semester, serve in a Machinist capacity, and teach non-credit courses approximately 22 hours per week.

The Industrial Maintenance Technology program prepares individuals to install, repair, and maintain industrial machinery and equipment such as pumps, motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and production machinery. It includes instruction in testing, adjusting, and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic systems, attaching supplemental equipment such as hoses, valves, gates, mechanical, electrical, and electronic control devices. The program also includes instruction in material handling equipment, pipefitting, welding, metal fabrication, and millwright. As a full-time faculty member in the Industrial Maintenance Technology program this position:

· Teaches for-credit classes

· Submits syllabi, attendance reporting, and final grades by college-established deadlines

· Participates in campus activities

· Attends faculty convocation and training

· Serves on committees

· Assists with student recruitment efforts

· Promotes the mission and values of the college

Teaching needs may include face-to-face, online, and/or evening classes. Instructors may be assigned classes at any of the four River Parishes Community College campuses (Gonzales, Reserve, Plaquemine, and St. Charles locations), as determined by student need and institutional demand.

The incumbent also:

· Develops and teaches non-credit CNC courses

As the Machinist, this position:

· Operates and maintains lathe, milling, and CNC machines

· Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production

· Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping

· Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task

· Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary

· Maintains inventory of completed products

· Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects

· Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs

· Maintains a safe and clean workstation

QUALIFICATIONS

· Required:

o Associate of Applied Science, high school degree, or equivalent

o Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly

o Working knowledge of safety protocols

o Excellent coordination and mechanical skills

o Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety

o Solid written and verbal communication skills

o Proficient in math

o Basic computer skills and ability to use the internet and email

o Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks

o Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

· Preferred:

o Teaching experience
