Orion Marine Group has an immediate opening for Heavy Equipment Operator, in Port Canaveral, FL.

This position is accountable for the operation of several different kinds of equipment, the incumbent must be proficient in operation of heavy equipment including front end loaders, excavators, telescopic boom forklifts, etc.

Individual needs to be committed to safety and efficiently perform miscellaneous material loading and unloading from tractor trailers, rough and fine grading (flat and sloped surfaces), rock placement (size ranging from bedding stone to rip rap). Must have references, be willing to perform tasks other than operating equipment, and have physical ability to access, egress and operate off-road heavy equipment.

Specific Responsibilities: * Works closely with the Foreman and others at the marine yard/project to support marine construction operations.

* Operates forklifts up to 20,000 lb.

capacity, hydraulic dozers up to Caterpillar D7 or equivalent, hydraulic manlifts up to 80 feet, and hydraulic maintainers up to caterpillar 140 G or equivalent.

* Operates tractors equipped with attachments such as but not limited to backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers/brush hogs and concrete breakers.

* proficient in operation of heavy equipment including front end loaders, excavators, telescopic boom forklifts, etc., Individual needs to be committed to safety and efficiently perform miscellaneous material loading and unloading from tractor trailers, rough and fine grading (flat and sloped surfaces), rock placement (size ranging from bedding stone to rip rap). * Operates various other types of stationary hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical or other mechanically powered lifts for the purpose of inspection, testing and repairs.

* Performs rigging and flagging when required for special lifts.

* Performs equipment inspections for operational and safety integrity.

* Performs minor maintenance of and to all equipment operated including lubricating, replacing cables and chains, replacing hooks and safety latches, adjusting linkages and tightening hoses.

* Coordinates project work with various work crews groups.

* Complies with all plant safety rules and reports all incidents and events to immediate supervision for corrective action.

* Attends all departmental safety meetings and actively supports - participates in safety programs and implementations.

* Complies with all Orion Marine Group policies, procedures - practices that are applicable to ensuring safe, efficient equipment operation.

* Participates in various company and regulatory training designed to improve overall productivity and complete projects on time and under budget.

* Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

* Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.). Position Requirements: A minimum of two (2) years heavy equipment operations experience is required; an Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology or related discipline also strongly preferred.

Prior experience must include being knowledgeable in the safe operation of various types of heavy equipment including forklifts, hydraulic dozers, hydraulic manlifts, hydraulic maintainers, backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers/brush hogs and concrete breakers in a chemical process manufacturing environment.

Must be knowledgeable of corporate safety rules - regulations and emergency response requirements.

The incumbent must possess a high level of mechanical aptitude, be an effective communicator, possess basic computer competencies, and be capable and willing to work overtime and holidays, as may be required.

The individual must also have the ability to work in confined spaces and from elevated areas on the jobsite.

In addition, this individual must be able to think clearly and solve multifaceted problems in the field with personnel of various degrees of skill levels, education and training.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.

This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel.

Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.

In addition, incumbents must also be capable of: Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters Wearing welding face shields, personal floatation devices, self-contained breathing apparatus Standing, stooping kneeling, squatting, climbing or sitting for long periods of time Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work Climbing vertical ladders to heights of 40'-50' Working in confined spaces Working at elevated heights Lifting 50 lb.
