Introduction The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is\nan independent State agency that regulates Maryland's $46 billion insurance\nindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers' and\ninsurance professionals' compliance with State law.

Through the diligence of a\nhighly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts, accountants,\nlawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint investigators, and\nothers, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive insurance\nmarketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly.

Staff members\nare subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers,\nand other public and private entities.\n\nThe MIA is charged with a broad range of\nresponsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance\nproducers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial\nexaminations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and\napproval of rates and contract forms.

The MIA investigates reports of consumer\nfraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners,\nand/or property insurance.

Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct\nexaminations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.

The MIA\nalso has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which\nparticipates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual\nconsumers annually.\n\nThis is a Management Service position that\nserves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.\n\n GRADE \nMIA 0025\n\n LOCATION OF POSITION Baltimore City\n POSITION DUTIES The Maryland Insurance Administration is recruiting for the\nposition of Associate Commissioner, Insurance Fraud and Enforcement\nDivision.

The Associate Commissioner reports directly to the Insurance\nCommissioner and oversees the agency's enforcement of laws and regulations\nrelating to insurance fraud and the conduct of professional licensees,\nincluding producers.

This position is responsible for the daily operation of\nthe MIA's Fraud Division and oversees investigations of civil fraud by\ninsurance companies, producers, consumers and the general public.

This also\nworks closely with Assistant Attorneys General and law enforcement officials in\nthe investigation of criminal insurance fraud, including the pursuit of\ncriminal charges against persons or entities who have committed fraudulent\ninsurance acts.

This position also oversees the Professional Licensing\nEnforcement Unit which investigates misconduct by professional licensees of the\nAdministration, including insurance producers and, where appropriate, issues\ndisciplinary orders against licensees or cease and desist orders against person\nacting without a license.

This position may be required to give\ntestimony in civil, criminal or administrative proceedings.\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited\ncollege or university.\n\n\nExperience: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience investigating\ninsurance fraud or white-collar crimes, of which seven years must have included\nsupervisory responsibilities.\n\nNote:\n\nAdditional experience investigating insurance fraud or\nwhite-collar crimes may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to four\nyears of the required education.\nTen (10) years of investigative work or law enforcement experience\nthat included supervising staff and five (5) years experience investigating\ninsurance fraud or white-collar crimes may substitute for the minimum\nqualifications as stated above.\n DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The Maryland Insurance Administration is recruiting for the\nposition of Associate Commissioner, Insurance Fraud and Enforcement\nDivision.
