The main responsibilities of the Desk Assistant involve providing services to residential students in their assigned residence halls. Desk Assistants are expected to work throughout late-night hours. Specific responsibilities and expectations are listed below in the General Responsibilities section.

Responsibilities

Administrative

• Consistently keeps materials and information so that it is easily accessible to residents, colleagues, and other staff members

• Maintain accurate and detailed records of interactions and other work-related tasks

• Acts to complete tasks and identifies what else can be done without specific direction.

• Complete tasks and submits necessary documents timely; meets deadlines associated with the position

• Work collaboratively with other staff members

• Adhere to guidelines set forth by Departmental Policy.

• Ensure that the residence hall and workspace within it are only accessed by authorized individuals.

• Communicates appropriately with colleagues and supervisor for all job-related tasks and concerns

Customer Service

• Provide excellent customer service while working with residents, both at the front desk and in day-to-day interactions.

• Be available to students during desk hours to answer questions and assist with any concerns that they may have.

• Know campus resources and refers students to appropriate College personnel as needed.

• Gather facts from residents and make informed decisions on how to move forward with any concerns.

• Identify crisis situations and make necessary referrals.

• Maintain an appropriate attitude when working at their assigned desk.

• Be able to give accurate communication to residents, colleagues, and supervisors.

• Prioritize resident needs appropriately and meets expectations in a timely manner.

Professionalism

• Ensure that information is being shared appropriately with discretion.

• Recognize the audience with whom they are communicating (resident/colleague/Staff) and delivers messages appropriately tailored to their audience.

• Arrive to work and completes shifts as scheduled.

• Be accountable for actions associated with the position.

• Maintain a proper perspective and approach to tasks and relationships associated with the DA position.

TIME

• The Desk Assistant position works either a 6pm-12am shift or a 12am-6am shift.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENT

• Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher while employed.
