Description:

Wellness Support Specialist

Are you passionate about holistically supporting college students? Are you motivated to help them connect to community resources and become strong self-advocates? Are you looking to join a team who sees supporting students' wellbeing as an integral part of our mission to enrich the lives of Jewish students? If so, apply for the Wellness Support Specialist role at Queens Hillel.

Role Overview

Jewish students at Queens College, and every campus served by Queens Hillel, have different needs and demands on their time than a typical Jewish student on a traditional residential campus. They may have childcare responsibilities for younger siblings and jobs that fund their education and/or contribute to household income. Students on commuter campuses are predominantly from working class and/or immigrant families and many are the first in their family to attend college.

At Queens Hillel, we cultivate holistic approaches to successfully engage commuter students in Jewish life. Rather than asking ourselves "How might we build relationships with and between Jewish commuter students, through Jewish learning, volunteer projects and leadership programs?" We ask: "How might we become a radically inclusive BioPsychoSocialSpiritual resource that empowers students to engage in open-ended identity exploration, mentors them to seek and find what they need and feel passionate about, and coaches them to actualize ideas around their interests?" This is exactly what Queens Hillel has sought to answer, by developing the Wellness Program which is overseen by our Director of Wellness.

The Wellness Program at Queens Hillel has 3 primary initiatives: (1) the kosher grocery program, (2) 1:1 mental health support and referrals, and (3) student-led wellness programs. With these aspects available for all students at Queens Hillel, we are better equipped to empower our students around their physical, psychological, social, and spiritual wellness.

Queens Hillel is now seeking a part-time social worker to support our Director of Wellness in provision of social work services and wellness-centric engagement work with Queens Hillel students.
