Under direction from the Supervising Special Investigator, the incumbent as a program expert, independently perform the most complex, varied, and responsible duties in a field or a field and laboratory setting.

Independently obtains motor vehicle fuel, lubricants and automotive product samples and transports them to the Division laboratory in Anaheim for quality analysis, thereby affording the Division the ability to enforce quality and labelling standards set forth in California weights and measures laws and regulations.

Sample Procurement: * Use State vehicle, independently recover complaint fuel samples from Southern California county offices of agriculture/weights and measures, and verify complaint is logged into complaint database.

* Use State vehicle, transport laboratory samples, materials, and test standards between counties' offices, state facilities, and field locations.

* Conduct random fuel sampling while refueling State vehicle used in transporting samples.

* Independently conduct sampling of packaged lubricants, fluids and automotive products at retail locations.

* Using standardized procedures, maintain proper chain of custody for all samples.

Working Conditions Duties for this position are performed inside or outside of buildings and overnight travel may be required.

Weather, temperature, lighting, and noise levels may vary.

Terrain may vary from smooth and stable to irregular and unstable.

Driving a vehicle, as well as entering and exiting the vehicle numerous times throughout the workday, is required.

Incumbent will use a State-issued vehicle, cell phone, digital camera, and computer.

The Division of Measurement Standards is comprised of two branches: The Laboratories Branch and the Enforcement Branch.

The Division's activities are designed to ensure the accuracy of commercial weighing and measuring devices; verify the quantity of both bulk and packaged commodities; and enforce quality, advertising and labeling standards for most petroleum products.

Ensuring fair competition for industry and accurate value comparison for consumers are primary functions of the county/state programs.

The Division maintains offices in Sacramento, Anaheim, and Fresno.
