Closed Date: September 30, 2024 "POSITION SUBJECT TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING" This class performs specialized repairs and maintenance on County fleet equipment and other light and heavy-duty equipment.

This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES May serve as a lead to lower level staff by prioritizing and assigning work, training staff on work methods and procedures, and/or performing other related activities Evaluates, detects, and diagnoses major and/or minor mechanical problems on vehicles and/or equipment; implements required repairs Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment Prepares and submits work orders Measures, designs, and fabricates structures for use in/on vehicles and/or equipment; may build/rebuild transmissions for various makes and models of vehicles; and may deliver fuel Wires and installs emergency responder equipment in vehicles Responds to emergency calls for service and may transport equipment and vehicles Participates as a member of the disaster response team Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualification Requirements: Training and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and up to one year of experience in a fleet maintenance position working with automotive repair, welding, or fabricating; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated with special endorsements Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics (KSAO's): small engine repair techniques light, medium, or heavy equipment or automotive maintenance and repair principles and practices applicable tools and equipment of the trade diagnostic devises utilized in identifying vehicle and/or equipment malfunctions occupational hazards and safety precautions reading and comprehending technical repair manuals using applicable tools and equipment of the trade maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment detecting and diagnosing vehicle and equipment malfunctions communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc.

Emergency Management Responsibilities: During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker.

This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
