Summary:

Reporting to the Housing Operations Manager, the Staff Residential Assistant coordinates the front office operations and assist with projects in the residence halls.

Job Description:

Promotes and assures the safety of students and the security of the University residence halls; monitors access to the building; and maintains communication between residents, Residence Life and Housing, Department of Public Safety, and other involved staff during emergency situations.

Facilitates a positive on-campus experience by providing excellent customer service.

Monitors access to the building, ensuring that the access card system is respected and maintains a sign-in log of residents and visitors to the building. Maintains the key inventory for the building; compiles and provides weekly updates for Residence Life and Housing; and reports lost keys and initiates paperwork for new key requests for residents, as necessary.

Respond to emergencies and non-emergencies in the residence halls, making resolution and/or maintaining control of the situation and works closely with the Department of Public Safety and other Residence Life and Housing staff.

Documents information in the daily log throughout the shift.

Ensures that emergency guidelines established by the University are adhered to at all times; and communicates with appropriate staff to be contacted during emergencies.

Assists with building checks during fire alarms and ensures that all residents vacate the building.

Assists with residence hall registration procedures and scheduled room inspections throughout the semester.

Attends and participates in individual meetings, staff meetings, routine residence hall meetings, and professional development and training meetings, as required.

Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisor.

Shows a genuine commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace; and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

Serves as a mandatory Title IX reporter; and takes annual Title IX training as part of the compliance effort.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

A minimum of one year of experience with office administration, student services, residence life, or a related field.

Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

Experience working in a collegiate residence hall.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Strong commitment to enforce policies and follow-through.

Strong ability to demonstrate a high level of tact, integrity and problem solving skills.

Strong familiarity with technology and working with multiple software/platforms.

Demonstrated experience with Google applications, Microsoft applications, and PeopleSoft.

Demonstrated ability to work with students and across University departments.

Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Additional Job Details:

The hourly rate is $21.00 per hour.

This position works full time on Wednesday to Sunday from 12 am to 8:30 am OR on Friday to Tuesday from 12 am to 8:30 am

This is a one-year extended temporary staff position with some benefits including health insurance, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.

The extended temporary appointment may be renewed for another year or has an opportunity to convert to regular status with full benefits.

The successful candidates must have valid authorization to work in the United States.

The successful candidates must undergo training in basic office procedures, emergency procedures, emergency preparedness, conflict resolution, and referrals.

Other Important Information:

The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.
