Introduction The Maryland Insurance\nAdministration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland's\ninsurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers'\nand insurance professionals' compliance with State law.

Through the diligence\nof a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts,\naccountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint\ninvestigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive\ninsurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly.\nStaff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers,\nconsumers, and other public and private entities.\nThe MIA is charged with a\nbroad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers\nand insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of\nfinancial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the\nreview and approval of rates and contract forms.

The MIA investigates reports\nof consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile,\nhomeowners, and/or property insurance.

Insurance carriers are subject to market\nconduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.\nThe MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which\nparticipates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual\nconsumers annually.\n GRADE 17\n LOCATION OF POSITION Baltimore City\n Main Purpose of Job This position functions as a senior examiner and examiner-in-charge performing examinations, investigations, and desk audits of the business practices of HMOs, dental plans, nonprofit health service plans, and life and health insurers, and any other person or entities engaged in the life and health insurance industry and regulated by the Maryland Insurance Administration.\nThis position functions as a lead examiner overseeing all aspects of market conduct examinations and investigations.

The Senior Market Conduct Examiner may be a liaison between the market conduct team and the company being examined, and may assign tasks to team members working on an exam in addition to performing analysis of information provided by the company.

The Senior Market Conduct Examiner may also draft correspondence, reports, and orders resulting from the exam.\n MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education:Bachelor'sdegree\nfrom an accredited four-year college or university.\nExperience: Five (5)\nyears of work experience as an insurance regulator or in the Compliance or\nLegal department of a life or health carrier or related profession.\nOR\nNine years of work\nexperience as aninsurance regulator or in the Compliance or Legal\ndepartment of a life or health carrier or related profession.\n DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of Maryland\ninsurance laws and regulations and/or federal regulations concerning life and\nhealth insurance\nFamiliarity with the\nstandards in the NAIC Market Regulation Handbook and standard market conduct\npractices\nAn Accredited Insurance\nExaminer or Certified Insurance Examiner designation from the Insurance\nRegulatory Examiners Society or similar credential\nStrong research abilities\nAbility to communicate\neffectively verbally and in writing\nAbility to analyze\ninformation and draw accurate conclusions\n BENEFITS STATE OF MARYLAND BENEFITS\n\n FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS If you have any questions\nabout this recruitment, please \nFor immediate\nconsideration, upload one WORD or PDF file, at the 'Resume' tab, that\ncontains:\n1.
