Heavy Equipment Road Mechanic - Hampton

Job Title: Heavy Equipment Road Mechanic - Hampton * The primary responsibilities of this position are to diagnose and repair heavy highway, grading and asphalt equipment and maintenance issues.

Description of Duties: * Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.

* Perform field repairs and overhaul of the various highway, grading and asphalt equipment, pumps, air compressor, transmissions, controls, and accessories, etc.

* Test equipment following repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with operating specifications.

* Perform the necessary field preventive maintenance practices to increase the service life of the equipment.

* Notify the Shop Foreman when problems arise, especially when delays involve moving equipment.

* Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.

Education: * High School Diploma / GED.

Work Experience: * Minimum 5 years of experience with heavy equipment preferred.

Skills Required * Effective communication and organization skills.

* Diagnose and repair heavy grading and paving equipment.

* Experienced with diesel engines, hydraulic components, and electrical systems.

* Able to perform repairs in accordance with OSHA safety regulations.

* Virginia State Inspection license desirable but not required.

* Valid driver's license.

* Mechanical aptitude.

Physical Demands: * Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.

* Requires lifting up to 50 lbs.

* Overtime work is required.

* Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
