ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs required duties involved in the preparation of food items for students and staff meals to include: checking menu and following work schedules; reading and following recipes and/or instructions for preparing pre-portioned items; assembling ingredients and utensils; cooking; serving; and clean up. Also includes bag lunches and preparing snacks for school programs as required
Monitors and records cooking times and temperatures to ensure thorough heating as required for consumer safety under HACCP regulations
Sets up serving lines and maintains cleanliness of serving area; ensure the availability of necessary serving utensils; serve food in the appropriate quantity per customer
Maintains cleanliness and sanitization of equipment, food preparation and serving areas, and storage areas, and safely handles and stores utensils, pans, serving ware and cookware
Assists in stocking supplies and monitors inventory, rotates food products as scheduled
May serve as cashier, operating a point-of-sale terminal and collecting monies
Performs all duties in compliance with school, District and Health Department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and care
Prepares accurate work records as required; may enter and retrieve computer data as needed
Attends training and meetings as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills
Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds
Ability to move around well enough to perform the duties of the position safely
Complete six (6) hours of continuing education professional development annually
Performs such other duties as assigned or directed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to work in areas which are often uncomfortable, wet, and slippery
Ability to work in the temperatures found in hot kitchens and the walk-in refrigerators and freezers
Ability to understand and adhere to safety procedures and take precautions required to avoid cuts, bruises, burns, scalds, and falls
Ability to understand and follow directions in English, both oral and written, to ensure safety of food preparation and service
Ability to read and write at a fifth grade level
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations at a fifth grade level
Ability to keep accurate records

ADA COMPLIANCE:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of up to 50 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
