Citizens Help Duties * You will diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). * You will disassemble and repair a variety of components including compressors, evaporators, condensor, cooling coils, air handlers, bearings, water control valves, air dampers, etc.

* You will lubricate moving parts and replace air filters, v belts, electrical motors, pulleys, sheaves, bearings, fan shafts, etc.

* You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment.

* You will utilize various trade tools, test equipment, and instruments to include: voltage, amperage, ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, micron vacuum analyzers and pumps, electronic temperature gauges, and capacitor analyzers.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Installing, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, a variety of systems components such as compressors, which include gear, reciprocating, centrifugal, or rotary pump and a variety of refrigerant controls such as those with low and high pressure side floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, capillary or choke types, and those base on volume or quantity changes; 2) Examining, diagnosing malfunctions and making repairs to systems that include analog and/or direct digital control (DDC) systems used in complex heating ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; and 3) Following all guidelines and procedures pertaining to the use and handling of refrigerants in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.

A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.

Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Shift work may be required.

Emergency overtime may be required.

Recall to duty may be required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is required to maneuver equipment in and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling.

The work requires frequent carrying and setting-up of parts and equipment that may weigh up to 50 pounds.

Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers.

The work requires making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are frequent and may be for long periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside, on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads.

Personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, helmets, goggles, respirators, etc.

may be required to be worn when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants during regular maintenance and repair or when making emergency repairs.
