Temporary Custodial Register

Position Summary Shelby County Government is looking for individuals who are interested in being considered for Temporary Custodial opportunities.

Applications are accepted and valid January through December of each year.

Positions are only available when there is a vacancy within the hiring department.

As positions become available, applications will be considered based on experience, education and special requirements.

Minimum Qualifications 100% - Works under direct supervision to perform a variety of janitorial functions for an assigned area(s). 1.

Custodial (janitorial work, cleaning offices, cleaning restrooms, disposal of waste, etc.) services experience.

2.

Custodial experience in a commercial facility environment, preferred.

3.

Performs other related duties as required or directed.

Duties and Responsibilities 1.

Dusts, cleans, polishes, and waxes furniture, fixtures, woodwork, and equipment.

2.

Washes windows and cleans blinds.

3.

Sweeps, mops, waxes, and polishes floors.

4.

Disposes of waste materials.

5.

Moves furniture.

6.

Performs all cleaning requirements necessary for the maintenance of bathrooms.

7.

Replaces paper towels, maintains soap containers, and changes light bulbs.

8.

Keeps utility storage rooms in good order by cleaning lockers and equipment, arranging supplies, and sweeping and mopping floors.

9.

Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

KSA's KSAs and Others - 1.

Ability to have manual dexterity to use common cleaning devices.

2.

Ability to learn simple tasks related to janitorial work.

3.

Ability to deal with others courteously.

4.

Ability to follow instructions.

Physical Requirements Some positions may require heavy lifting, pulling, climbing, standing for a long time, etc.

Special Requirements 1.

Some of the temporary positions may require to work at multiple locations, if needed.

2.

Some of the temporary positions may require overtime hours or to work various shifts.

3.

Some of the temporary positions may require working in a secured prison environment.
