Electronics Fleet Technician NOTICE Applicants must complete both of the following steps.

Job Number 2024003 Salary $24.85-$37.28/hr The Electronic Fleet Technicial duties include the install, service, and repair communications equipment and other electronic devices in vehicles and city owned facilities.

Install and remove all types of two-way radio equipment and associated equipment in police vehicles.

This may include radar, video, computer, emergency lighting and other equipment required for communications and Police operations.

Fabricate metal and electronic parts for communications equipment.

Install and support hardware, software and other components related to specialized police equipment.

Provide technical assistance and training to users on personal computer hardware and software operation.

Handle and assist with installation, maintenance, and operation of computerized and video equipment throughout the police department including buildings and vehicles.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Repair and service radio base stations, consoles, mobile radios, and other electronic equipment as may be required.

Install specialized police equipment in police vehicles.

This equipment includes but not limited to light bars, radios, mobile data computers, vehicle camera systems and weapon security systems.

Perform light fabrication and modification of installation hardware.

Perform regularly scheduled preventative maintenance checks in accordance with FCC regulations and equipment manufacturer's guidelines.

Perform transmitter site inspections on a predetermined schedule noting all deficiencies found on the transmitter site check list.

Make all repairs possible noting action taken and outcome of repair.

Repairs outside IPD repair scope incumbent will contact the appropriate subcontractor to facilitate repair and inspect repair when completed noting outcome in site log.Perform preventative maintenance on all specialized equipment located in police vehicles.

Preventative maintenance will include cleaning all equipment, replacing any damaged or missing parts, testing all systems for proper operation.

Any equipment found to be defective during the preventative maintenance process will be either repaired or replaced with a spare piece of equipment prior to retuning the unit to service.

Troubleshoots malfunctions of electronic equipment and installations in vehicles to diagnose and correct operational problems.

Operates installed equipment (e.g., police radios, MOT's, in car camera video/audio systems, radar, etc) on order to test or demonstrate equipment.

Coordinate's scheduling of work orders with central garage mechanics and outside vendors to ensure prompt completion of all work required not done in house.

Communicates with off-site radio and maintenance shops to answer questions and provided updated technical information.

Maintain records and logs to document all installations and repairs of installed equipment.

Orders and maintains inventory of hardware and electronic equipment to ensure the availability of necessary parts and supplies required for the routine installation and repair of all departmental electronic mobile communications and special equipment.

Researches, tests, evaluates, and proposes new vehicle purchases and associated vehicle equipment for the Department.

Assists in equipment and technical services procurement through fiscal activities to include ordering parts and equipment from appropriate sources, assist in preparation of bid and RFP documents, organize purchasing documents for submission to supervisor and fiscal department.

Trains users in the operation of new equipment using appropriate training aides (e.g., training videos, classroom instruction, mock-ups, fixtures, etc.), tools, service bulletins and other written documentation.

Operates vehicles (e.g., automobiles, light/medium/heavy duty trucks, vans, motor homes, recreational vehicles, etc.) in order to transport vehicles to and from work sites and to perform work functions off site.

Develops, modifies and/or recommends changes in shop operations or procedures to expedite repairs and installations of vehicle equipment.

Coordinate surplus process and tracking of all destroyed or decommissioned department vehicles.

Including the removal of all emergency equipment and decals.

Participate in special radio and telecommunications projects as directed Maintain and improve knowledge of land mobile radio and telecommunications technology to include reading professional publications, attending meetings of professional organizations as assigned, network with other professionals in the same field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.

Two to three years of related experience.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications: FCC General Class License preferred, Motorola or APCO Certification accepted Valid Missouri Driver's License Working Conditions: Position operates a majority of the time in a shop environment, with a mixture of time spent engaged in fieldwork and office settings.

Repair facility/field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to inclement weather, heat, cold; work on scaffolds, ladders, and towers; work with electrical currents; work in confined spaces.
