Position Summary Under the general direction of the Traffic Engineer, the Senior Engineering Technician independently performs designs, studies, and evaluations related to transportation planning and traffic operation.

Performs related duties as required.

Essential Job Functions Oversees operation of the City's traffic signal and school flasher systems; implements traffic operation improvements; meets with citizens to discuss traffic operation issues; prepares reports, agreements, contract, resolutions, and ordinances.

Performs calculations, studies, traffic operations, and planning investigations; prepares and reviews plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation projects; analyzes signal system performance and prepares/updates signal timing plans utilizing arterial and network timing software; performs travel demand forecasting using TRANPLAN; administers and inspects signal construction projects; analyzes requests for street lighting; supervises work of signal technicians, administers other programs, and coordinates with other departments as needed.

Responsible for regular attendance and arriving to work on time.

Education and Experience Associate's Degree and five years of experience, or High School Diploma and seven years of applicable experiences.

A valid Class B Driver's License is required and is subject to DOT-FMCSA requirements.

International Municipal Signal Association Level One, Two and Three current certifications required and Highway Lighting Certification.

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, DOT-regulated drug and alcohol test, motor vehicle review and successful registration and completion of the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Good knowledge of traffic operation signal systems; ability to read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, schematics; ability to supervise, train, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, citizens, and general public; ability to administer consultant contracts; ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
