FINANCE Corporate Treasury

We're a team of specialists charged with managing the firm’s funding, liquidity, capital and relationships with creditors and regulators. Corporate Treasury manages the firm’s financial resources and minimizes interest expense through liability planning, asset liability management, and liquidity portfolio yield enhancement. The division is ideal for collaborative individuals who have strong quantitative analysis skills and risk management capabilities since Treasury actively manages the firm’s financial resources which are constantly changing due to business activity, markets, risk appetite, regulations and other factors.

What we do:

Corporate Treasury plays a central role in the firm’s overall strategy with responsibility for providing appropriate funding to support all firmwide activity while maximizing net interest income. The division allocates financial resources, raises funding and capital to support firm activity, and dynamically manages the firm’s asset liability risk and liquidity portfolio. Corporate Treasury actively engages in public markets and with businesses across the firm, investors, ratings agencies and regulators. The division is ideal for collaborative individuals with strong quantitative analysis skills, interest in portfolio management and a risk management mind set.

How we’re organized:

Corporate Treasury is responsible for financial resource management and asset liability management to facilitate all firm activity at the lowest cost possible. Functional teams within Corporate Treasury focus on resource allocation, funding and capital planning, asset liability management, trading execution, liquidity projections, liquidity policies and platforms, regulatory engagement, and LIBOR transition. The division is run by the Global Treasurer and works closely with the CFO, each of the firm’s businesses, Controllers, Operations, Risk, and Investor Relations among other groups at the firm.

Working in the Corporate Treasury division, you will have exposure to all aspects of the firm, including to the Global Markets and Investment Banking Divisions, to new business activities, and to critical strategic programs. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary in order to work successfully with diverse internal and external stakeholders including businesses, external creditors and regulators.

About the Role:

Funding and Capital Planning (FCP) is a key department within Corporate Treasury. Working closely with the Treasurer and other members of senior management, FCP is responsible for setting the firm’s forward funding plan and capital management strategy. The team seeks to optimize the firm’s funding mix to minimize cost, and sets dynamic capital allocation and deployment strategies to be most efficient with the firm’s resources. Key aspects of the department’s mandate include oversight of the firm’s funding plan and execution with relevant business across all jurisdictions.

Responsibilities may include:

Understand key funding sources available to GS entities

Understand the interest rate and liquidity risk implications, of funding sources per internal and external regulatory risk frameworks

Assess and propose funding recommendations to senior management

Communicate and drive execution with relevant businesses responsible for raising funding in their respective debt markets

Analyze and support new funding and product initiatives of liability businesses

Produce critical inputs for business planning and decision-making

Create presentations for discussion with the Board of Directors, senior management, regulators and other key stakeholders

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree

Approximately 3 to 4 years of work experience

Ability to interact, influence and build relationships at all levels of seniority across all functions within an organization

Ability to balance strategic focus with tactical implementation/execution skills / experience

Ability to work on multiple projects with a high attention to detail

Ability to analyze, evaluate and form independent judgments

Strong quantitative skills, comfortable building Excel models, managing and interpreting large amounts of data, and analyzing the output to identify trends and present solutions

Highly-motivated self-starter with a good commercial perspective, and the ability to lead projects and cross-divisional initiatives

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics

Approximately 3 to 4 years of work experience in Consulting, Treasury or another finance-related function in a corporate or major financial institution

Exposure to banking funding products, capital or money markets a plus
