Scope of Work Diagnose, maintain, and repair city cars, light duty trucks, trailers, small engine and specialty equipment.

Essential Job Duties * Diagnose equipment and vehicle malfunctions such as ignition, steering, engine control, electrical, ABS heating, and air conditioning.

* Estimates costs and repairs to specifications.

* Performs repairs in a safe and timely manner.

* Repair suspension, brakes, electrical components, engine parts, fuel pumps, hydraulic lift gates, heating and air conditioning.

* Determine the appropriateness of off-sit repairs such as oil and filter changes, tires, mufflers, front end alignments, body work, engine replacement and upholstery repairs.

* Inspect vehicles and trailers for state inspection stickers.

* Determine readiness and fitness of new vehicles; install specialty equipment such as power inverters, air compressors, beacon lights, toolboxes and generators.

* Reports safety concerns and damages of all equipment to risk management.

* Remove vehicles from service; make ready for auction.

* Reads blueprints, electrical diagrams, manuals and other specifications in order to make repairs.

* Prioritize Police first response vehicles and equipment repairs.

* Perform maintenance on first response equipment including sirens, lights, radars, K-9 and drone equipment.

* Respond to requests for service calls and roadside assistance.

* Cleans and maintains shop facilities, equipment, tools, and grounds.

* Maintains records of work performed such as work orders, logs, historical information, and special written requests.

* Change transmission oils and filters in the absence of other personnel.

* Perform other related duties as required.

* Employee must provide own hand tools.

City supplies major equipment including power tools, computerized analyzers, and other diagnostic equipment.

Physical and Environmental Conditions Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building and vehicle-to-vehicle.

Able to drive a city vehicle to and from different worksites.

Employee will work in extreme temperatures bending, kneeling, twisting, and climbing in order to make repairs on vehicles or equipment.

Employee can work with mechanical, biological, chemical, and electrical hazards while repairing vehicles and equipment.

Employee is also required to perform heavy lifting of machinery and parts frequently.

Safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves provided Required Qualifications Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, and vendors in order to diagnose repairs and order materials for repair.

The employee also communicates with other employees in the workgroup and in other departments.

Knowledge of proper tools used in welding and fabricating parts and equipment.

Ability to safely use tools, vehicles, and equipment such as emissions and battery testers, electronic diagnostic equipment like a diesel laptop and brake lathes, bench grinders, lifts, overhead cranes, jacks, air conditioning and recovery systems, trucks, tractors, forklifts, and hand tools, air tools and welding and cutting torches.

Skill in reading and practical application of manuals, blueprints, and other similar specifications used by city departments.

Ability to read, measure, and calculate the types and sizes of materials needed and the ability to determine a reasonable amount of time that will be used in the actual fabrication process.

Strong mechanical knowledge.

High school diploma or GED required and/or a Technical degree in automotive and diesel technology preferred.

Prefer one to three years of training as a mechanic or in a related field.

Valid Texas Class A CDL Driver's License within one year of employment.

Texas Department of Public Safety Inspector Certificate required within one year of employment.
