Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering Architect (ME) will be part of the Center of Excellence team under Global SusTaining Engineering Team Org structure (STET) and will be will be responsible for developing the system architecture, design and product development of Philips Medical Carts.Responsibilities include developing conceptual and detailed design of structural elements of carts that involve die-cast, sheet-metal and machined components, along with design of plastic enclosures to meet cosmetic and Philips design language requirements.

The Mechanical Engineering Architect will also be responsible for setting up a design of excellence center for medical carts, and to develop strong and efficient engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Work with Product Marketing, Industrial Design and Clinical Science to define the feature set and functionality of the cart based on Voice of the customer, workflow needs and product branding requirements.

Develop medical carts to meet all functional, mechanical and reliability requirements including complying to IEC 60601 standards

Work with Engineering teams/ Suppliers to develop and leverage proven solutions including Modularization of features/ components and hardware.

Product design and Industrialization of high performing core cart components across multiple cart modalities.

Drive/execute strategic projects according to business goals across multiple functional units and Cross pollination of design knowledge resulting from working across multiple business including meeting internal stakeholder expectations as well as mechanical engineering objectives

Manage and execute multiple cart development across various business units by making business decisions based on project needs, priorities and timelines.

Drive product development activities including development of design concepts, prototype testing, engineering specs, and module/system level tests.

Drive continuous improvement projects related to design implementation, manufacturing process, product quality and reliability

Job Requirements:

Education

BSME from an accredited university

10 years minimum of experience in product design and development.

Experience working as a Lead Mechanical engineer / principal engineer role.

Skills

Strong leadership and engineering skills/knowledge in product design and various manufacturing process.

Strong collaborative abilities, proactively provides expert advice in defining and influencing system architecture by working with internal and external stakeholders.

Methodical, effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills.

Proficient in CAD, specific experience and proficiency in SolidWorks required.

Strong background in design and development of die-cast, sheet metal and plastic components with a great depth of knowledge in various manufacturing process.

Knowledge of plastic component design, SPI standards, exposure to plastics tooling release, and knowledge of design principles to address cosmetic issues.

Expertise in design for die-cast components, best practices, understanding of NADCA standards, die-cast tolerances, and design for structural integrity.

Knowledge of bolted joint analysis, material/fastener selection, and design for manufacturing.

Proficient in Tolerance Analysis, interpreting structural analysis and design modifications considering application and factor of safety. Knowledge of DFMEA.

Experience in various forms of sheet metal manufacturing, including development of hard and soft tooled features, material selection, surface finish and coating standards such as MIL specs.

Independently creates product designs, tests, and analyzes technical problems and applies advanced techniques (e.g. statistical analysis, design of experiments, etc.) to problem solving.

Experience working with design partners to develop custom solutions for system needs.

Strong collaborative abilities, proactively provides expert advice in defining and influencing system architecture by working with internal and external stakeholders.

Methodical, effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills.

Technical writing/ documentation skills for regulated medical device design environment, including requirements definition

Proficient in CAD (Solidworks) and Project Engineering software (MS Project, Visio)

Capable of managing project work in alignment with internal processes
