Overview:

Overview

Accountable for applying skills to do the conversion of documented/written diagnoses and treatment procedures into standard codes (ICD, CPT, HCPS, etc). Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnoses/procedures codes according to published guidelines to optimize reimbursement. Ensures that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.Licensure: Experience: None.Certifications: CCA (Certified Coding Associate), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologist),CPC (Certified Professional Coder), COC (Certified Outpatient Coder) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) is required..Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure coding, CPT & HCPCS coding, UHDDS Abstracting Data Knowledge, Computer skills with Windows, basic printer skills, telephone skills. Ability to courteously interact with other health care professionals. Excellent previous attendance record. Good communication skills. Medical terminology skills. Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements: Computer workstation, quiet environment, keyboard and computer mouse use, telephone use, mostly sitting with some reviews done on nursing floors. Physical demands are attached plus push, pull, and grip up to 30 lbs., pinch up to 10 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl not applicable. Equipment Used: Computer, keyboard, mouse, printer, photocopier, telephone, ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and various reference books.Preferred Education: Preferred Licensure: Preferred Experience: Coding (DRG/ICD/CPT/HCPCS) experience preferred.Preferred Certifications: Preferred Other:
