Job Description

esVolta seeks a motivated and energetic candidate to join our team as a VP, Investment Strategy & Analytics to lead its valuation and analysis team, develop and drive strategies to improve the Company’s competitive positioning and act as a thought partner to the CEO, CDO, CFO and the Management Committee.

Key Responsibilities

Project Underwriting:

Lead project investment underwriting process and investment and transaction pricing decisions for esVolta.

Maintain standard set of underwriting guidelines, including developing and maintaining data-driven support for all key modelling assumptions.

Lead cross-departmental collaboration to ensure disciplined and accurate project underwriting, and to develop and maintain data-driven support for all key modelling assumptions.

Valuation & Analysis:

Manage esVolta's financial analysis department, including mentoring, training and developing the team.

Review project financial models to ensure consistency, quality control and best practices. Investment Recommendations:

Create and oversee project investment approval slides and papers, including analysis of project economics, risks and mitigants, sensitivity analysis and strategic merits.Present investment recommendations to Management Committee and the Board to support high-quality analytical decision-making process.

Evaluate and base recommendations on individual project economics and also portfolio-wide impacts/overall strategic needs of company, such as contracted vs merchant revenue and individual market exposures. Competitive Intelligence:

Evaluate esVolta's competitive positioning, and identify and drive strategies to improve competitiveness, reduce risk, and enhance economic results.

Lead cross-departmental collaboration to identify and deliver on opportunities for economic or competitive improvements.

Assess the company's weighted average cost of capital on a periodic basis, and identify and execute on ideas to enhance equity returns.

Collect and analyze market intelligence around energy storage market trends, competition, capex trends, merchant forecasts, pricing trends and RFP winning strategies.

Collaborate with CDO to analyze and evaluate existing portfolio and ongoing development strategy including portfolio valuation and identifying gaps or needs within the pipeline.

Commercial Execution:

Lead execution of key commercial or strategic transactions (e.g. capital raising, partnering) as needed for the CEO and CFO.

Collaborate with COD and development team to lead and manage execution of M&A transactions.

Manage financial analysis function in providing transactional and analytical support for new debt and tax equity financing transactions.

Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in finance required. MBA strongly desired.

15+ years of experience in project finance, tax equity, and/or investment banking.

Leadership experience in successfully recruiting, growing, developing and managing a team of financial professionals to excellence.

Experience in deal structuring and management of financing transactions.

Renewable energy and energy storage experience required.

Successful track record of managing complex project finance, tax equity and M&A transactions from beginning to end.

A thorough understanding of project financing and tax equity structures, including expertise and understanding of relevant tax and GAAP regulations, contractual matters and analytical models.

Expertise in financial modeling (cash flow forecasts, project scenarios analysis, project risk and return) and transaction documentation (management of relevant financial closing documentation).

Experience in reviewing, analyzing and negotiating and complex transaction documents.

Ability to lead due diligence, manage data rooms, and lead commercial negotiations.

Experience in creating deal marketing materials including teasers and CIMs.

Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional environment, including managing the financial, legal, and internal review and approval processes necessary to successfully close complex transactions.

Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, attention to detail and accountability, and an ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment.

Proficiency in MS Office tools including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Compensation and Location

Compensation: The annual salary plus bonus range for this position is listed below. The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Location

Flexible, option to work-from-home with periodic office visits for in-person engagement or to work from company offices in Newport Beach.
