as the Elementary and Middle School Education Specialist.
BACKGROUND/MISSION
Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) is the only organization to combine the power of education with
the grace and discipline of figure skating to build young leaders. We give girls 6-18 access to
innovative afterschool and summer programs that advance their intellectual, emotional and
physical health. Our mission is to help girls transform their lives and grow in confidence,
leadership and academic achievement. For more than 27 years, our award-winning programs
have provided girls from low-income communities with access to education, health and
wellness services to help them reach their fullest potential. Our vision is for every student,
regardless of socio-economic background, to acquire the foundational academic, social and
leadership skills to achieve her dreams. She will be a powerful speaker, an effective leader, live
a healthy lifestyle and be a global citizen. Headquartered in Harlem, we have launched our first
chapter in 2017, Figure Skating in Detroit.
POSITION SUMMARY
As the Elementary and Middle School Education Specialist at FSH, you will play a crucial role in
shaping the educational journey of our elementary and middle school students. This role
involves developing and implementing curriculum tailored to these age groups, overseeing
student data collection and analysis, and ensuring that every student receives personalized
learning support. Reporting to the VP, Education and Leadership Development, you will work
closely with the education team to uphold FSH's commitment to academic excellence and
student success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Development:
● Collaborate with the VP Education and Leadership Development and Education team to
develop and implement engaging and relevant curriculum for elementary and middle
school students in our afterschool and summer programs, ensuring alignment with
academic standards, covering a spectrum of subjects including STEAM, communications,
and financial literacy to enrich the educational experience of our students.
• Craft personalized learning strategies to support the diverse needs of students in grades
K-8.
Student Support:
● Act as point person/group liaison for elementary and middle school families,
maintaining a culture of support and high expectations.
● Work closely with the VP Education and Leadership Development to support individual
students’ learning needs and access to opportunities.
● Facilitate mandatory tutoring sessions as needed to support student learning and
academic progress.
● Liaise with the VP Education and Leadership Development to provide parent workshops
and communications.
Staff Management:
● Recruit, hire, and train elementary and middle school teachers, tutors, and TAs to
deliver high-quality instruction that meets the needs of our diverse student population.
● Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for frontline staff.
● Conduct mid-year and end-of-year evaluations to assess staff performance.
Data Collection and Evaluation:
● Oversee the collection and evaluation of report cards and other academic metrics for all
high school students, ensuring accuracy and completeness of academic records.
● Lead longitudinal approach to tracking and documenting program effectiveness for
elementary and middle school students, including developing and analyzing program
metrics, administering student surveys and other data collection.Collaboration:
● Work collaboratively with the Education team and FSH leadership to ensure alignment
of programming with organizational goals and grant deliverables.
● Proactively share student insights with the head of Marketing and Communications to
inform outreach efforts.
● Perform and assist with other projects, initiatives, and duties as needed and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor's degree in education or related field; graduate degree preferred.
● Minimum of 5 years of experience in elementary and/ or middle school education, with
a focus on curriculum development and student support. Applicants with classroom
teaching experience preferred.
● Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and
meet deadlines.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine desire to work with
students and their families.
● Patience, empathy, and trustworthiness, with the ability to foster a supportive learning
environment.

● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
