Position Summary
Pharmacy Technicians help licensed Pharmacists provide medication and other health care products to patients. Technicians usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients. Technicians refer any questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist or office managers.
Position Responsibilities
Pharmacy Technicians perform duties based on the application of scientific pharmacy principles. Responsibilities of Pharmacy Technicians include, but are not limited to:
Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, and at times mixing medication
Makes requisitions for drugs and supplies with professional guidance from the pharmacists Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of drugs and chemicals, and ensures their security
Verifies that information on the prescription is complete and accurate
Enters data in computer system, recording all the prescriptions, purchase orders, requisitions, and disbursements
Prepares insurance claim forms, and labels for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals. Performs general clerical duties, such as answering phones, operating computer, etc
Effectively follows workflow procedures with an in-depth understanding of each department for day-to-day coordination and processing of patient medication orders; manages own responsibilities.
Actively seeks opportunities to expand clinical, technical and insurance knowledge, leveraging available tools and training resources, to develop the basic drug understanding and technical expertise needed to accurately and more effectively assist patients.
Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
Additional Responsibilities
A Pharmacy Technician’s additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Packages prescriptions for delivery of medication to patients, after pharmacist has checked it
Complete required orientation as directed by facility
Follow facility and OSHA and HIPPA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
Maintains an ethical standard and genuine care for the patient
Follow facility Unusual Occurrence Protocol
Physical Demands
Standing or sitting for long periods of time
Lifting up to 30 lbs. at any given point with multiple repetitions
Visual Acuity; looking at the computer for an extensive period of time
Requirements
High School Diploma or Equivalent
IL Pharmacy Technician License: Required
Certification (PTCB or ExCPT or Grandfathered): Required
Pharmacy Technician experience: Preferred
Retail Setting experience: Preferred
Lives within 20-mile radius: Preferred
