Position: Solaris Administrator

Location: Bengaluru

Exp: 5+ Years

Education: BE/B-Tech, BCA/MCA, BSc-CS(Computers & IT background only)

Role Description:

The Deployed resource should able to perform the following activities and they should have Solaris 9. 10 & 11 OS & Server knowledge.

• Working knowledge on M7,M8,SPARC S7 and T series.

• Sun/Oracle Servers would be patched on as per valid patch schedule.

• Knowledge of storage/SAN technologies

• Virtualization with local zones and LDOMs.

• Knowledge on Open Boot Environment

• Knowledge on Service Domain,Control domain,IO domain,LDOM,PDOM and Solaris Clustering.

• Knowledge on network and HBA virtualization.

• Filesystem management with ZFS

• RFC's to be raised for the patching activities.

• Before patching health check of server is required & there is no fault & amber LED on server.

• Before patching every server needs to be restarted to check normal start-up of activity.

• Every patching activity has to follow a clean change record mentioning the server details, downtime from application team (if required).

• Data collection (like explorer) before patching and post patching to be completed and validated to see if everything is as per expectations.

• Take ufsdump backup of OS partition like /root /var /etc, excluding data file systems

• Unmirror rootdisk

• Collect the OS logs

• Check boot through both primary & secondary disk of mirror

• Boot with original /root disk

• Upgrade to latest patch which is available & as recommended by customer

• Reboot the server

• Review hardening and logs

• Mirror the /root disk post confirmation from App team & after 2-3 days' observation.

• 1 Installs, configures, maintains and performs system integration testing of SUN Solaris based operating systems, related utilities and hardware

• Responsible for troubleshooting Solaris based hardware and software problems.

• Monitors systems activities and fine tunes system parameters and configuration to optimize performance and ensure security of systems

• Performs capacity analysis, monitors and controls usage of disk space.

• Develop (as required) customized scripts / procedures for routine administration tasks including but not limited to backup/restore, shutdown and start-up

• Provides recommendations for improving the server environment, such as capacity thresholds, security gap, patch levels and hardware recalls

• Coordinate with service provider for issues and incidents related to critical Server outages, SEV 1 issues and RCA

• Coordinate maintenance and upgrade activities with OEM vendors

• Testing and ensuring Servers and peripheral devices are ready for hot stand-by

• Work with command center and service desk team for issue resolution and problem management

• Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation.
