Job Summary:

This is a Network Operations Position that requires the candidate to have practical working experience in field operations and In-depth understanding and knowledge of CISCO networking systems including LAN, WAN, firewalls, routers, switches Wi-Fi, and equipment installation. Geographically maintaining network services throughout Solano County includes 6 cities, 4 Data Centers and 60+ MDF and IDF locations. This is a leadership position that requires a high level of hands on experience in a primarily Cisco environment. Along with team members this position will be responsible for the day-to-day operational responsibilities for supporting and securing the Solano County network infrastructure. Our environment is primarily Cisco products so recent experience must include working primarily with Cisco equipment.

Please note that this position requires passing a California Law Enforcement Telecommunications (CLETS) background check, and authorization to work in the United Stats (see below for specifics)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administers the day-to-day operational readiness of the Solano County Network Infrastructure

Responds to daily service requests or trouble calls using the Service Now Ticketing system.

Ability to communicate with people with various levels of technical knowledge

Diagnostic and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot problems and find solutions,

Responds to LAN, WAN and Wireless network outages, able to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently

Manages MDF and IDF infrastructure, configures network equipment to support Data and VoIP QOS to Cisco phones. Runs patch cords to user network jacks to appropriate VLANs, runs fiber patch cords as needed to extend network resources.

Configures and manages secure network access via Cisco ISE

Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation

Manages wireless access points through Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers

Managing all stages in life cycle of network/communications hardware/software including design, testing, maintenance, upgrades/refresh

Responds to critical outages after hours as needed

Using Visio, documents network topology and provides drawings as needed

Manages asset inventory of network equipment

Works with various IT Service towers to resolve complex issues and or project support

Manages APC UPS Backup systems.

Team Leadership

Education and Experience:

5+ years of experience in a similar position and/or any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position. At least one of the following certifications: CCNA, CCNP, COMPTIA Network

Security Certs Desirable

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of common networking routing protocols EIGRP/BGP/OSPF

Hands on knowledge working with L3 Routers and Switches – ISR4K, C9606, C9407

Hands on experience working with Cisco switch stacks – Catalyst 9300, 9200, 3750, and working with LACP Port Channels and Trunks

Network QoS and Security measures - ACL, TACACS+, Port Security,

Experience working with Cisco ACI and Nexus switches

High level of experience in the Cisco routing and switching

Working knowledge of wireless networking, wireless LAN controllers, lightweight access point configuration and installation

Can identify and work with various types of Fiber Optic Cable, Single Mode, Multi-Mode, OM3

Working knowledge of SD-WAN

Cisco Meraki platform – configuring and installing MX, MR and MS devices

Knowledge of Cisco DNA Center, SolarWinds, and Service desirable - Able to leverage network management tools in the identification and response to security incidents and faults.

Creating topology network drawings in Visio and maintain comprehensive system documentation

Experience with Packet capturing and protocol analysis (TCP, UDP, ICMP, packet dissection)

Experience with “cloud” services such as IAAS, SAAS and Azure

Able to Work with department members and interface with resources from other groups, able to manage critical situations and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Participate in the problem investigation of connectivity incidents related to network devices, provide recommendations to improve reliability and availability, or reduce recovery time

Configure and maintain security appliances Firewalls/ASA

Applying network security upgrades on a consistent and timely basis

Must be able to remain

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in an office setting, at an individual workstation, using telephone and computer.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the day

Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer/copy machine

This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office

The person in this position frequently communicates via telephone
