SQL Database Administrator at a World-Class Gaming Company

As a database administrator, you will join an engineering team focused on delivering the best possible customer experience by ensuring our products' uptime, scalability, and performance. With systems that need to be highly resilient, extremely low latency, and scalable to massive volumes, you will work with other database administrators, architects, and product engineering teams to keep things optimal for today while also focusing on the future state as we move towards a highly automated and service-driven landscape.

What you will do:

Work within a central DBA team while interacting with an assigned development team.

Traditional MS SQL Server administration tasks include backups, maintaining availability groups, version upgrades, connectivity issues, and infrastructure management.

Preventive optimization of T-SQL, identifying and tuning high-consumption queries through comprehensive query performance monitoring.

Database partitioning and size management.

Reviewing T-SQL code for an assigned development team, as well as supporting developers in the efficient design of databases.

Developing and maintaining data archiving strategies, extraction, and insertion using T-SQL and/or Azure Data Factory.

Automating code and infrastructure using PowerShell, Terraform, and Azure DevOps.

Migration and creation of managed database services like Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instances.

Participation in an on-call support roster.

What is essential for the role:

Experience as an MS SQL Server database administrator.

Experience in performance tuning and T-SQL optimization.

Experience with high-volume transaction databases.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders up to the C-level.

A natural problem solver with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

Experience making decisions in a high-pressure environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

University degree or equivalent in terms of knowledge and experience.

Desirable:

Data engineering experience.

Experience in Microsoft Azure.

Experience with any of the following is considered an asset: Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, MongoDB, MySQL, Terraform, Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage.

Start date: As soon as possible

Hours: 160 hours/month for 12 months

Languages: English (professional fluency)

Work mode: Hybrid - 2 days a week in the Madrid office (Monday-Thursday if possible).

Salary: 50,000 - 77,000 annually, depending on experience

The job is freelance, but it includes perks and facilitation to become one.
