Job Description

Title: Middle/Upper School, Health and Wellness Teacher Leave Replacement - 1st Semester

This is a full time leave replacement teaching position for a passionate educator with a background in physical education, health and fitness/wellness programs at both the middle and upper school levels. The department philosophy encompasses the common goal for teaching students to live healthy and active lifestyles within a positive and diverse learning environment. Individuals who apply should be extremely responsible and highly motivated to teach and to make interdisciplinary connections across the various divisions of the school. In addition to teaching, our faculty members are involved in a variety of activities critical to the education of students at Dwight-Englewood School. This position is for the 1st semester of the 24-25 school year starting in late August and ending in late January.

Responsibilities:

In addition to teaching a full load of classes, the position includes:

Teaching middle school physical education classes

Teaching upper school courses related to group exercise and fitness

Opportunity to serve as an advisor to a small group of students

Supervision of the girl’s locker room

Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills; demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse educational environment, and have strong interpersonal skills, warmth, humor and energy. B.S. in health and physical education or its equivalent is required and candidates with coaching experience are preferred. Experience in developing or working in a wellness environment is advantageous as well as candidates who enjoy working with young adolescents.

Location

The school is located in Englewood, New Jersey, five minutes from the George Washington Bridge. Commuting from New York City is available by public transportation or car pool.
