General Description of Position:

The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for coordinating and overseeing patient care within the operating room, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment. They maintain professionalism while prioritizing patient safety and comfort throughout procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate and supervise patient care in the operating room, communicating effectively with the healthcare team to meet patient needs.

Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients of all ages, ensuring adherence to physician orders and pharmacological principles.

Manage inventory and prepare necessary supplies and medications for surgical procedures, maintaining a well-stocked and organized operating room.

Accurately document patient care and follow up on any missing information or patient needs in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the operating room, participating in equipment maintenance and restocking activities.

Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety standards.

Ensure patient safety by adhering to sterile techniques, actively participating in surgical time outs, and verifying patient identity and procedure details.

Adhere to proper hand hygiene and wear appropriate protective attire when in contact with patient bodily fluids.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent education.

RN License and current BLS/ACLS certification.

CNOR, BSN, and PALS certifications preferred.

Proficiency in basic software skills including alphanumeric data entry and word processing/typing.
