Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time experience in preparing and submitting federal grants. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and/or Google Apps.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in an academic medical center and/or cancer center setting. Proficiency with graphic design programs (i.e Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, etc.).

Brief Description of Duties:

The Assistant Director of Research Development reports to the Associate Director for Finance & Administration, at the Stony Brook Cancer Center. The successful incumbent will be responsible for numerous aspects in connection with the preparation, submission and maintenance of items and tasks on the Stony Brook Cancer Center’s behalf, associated with the National Cancer Center (NCI), Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).

Responsible for maintaining the SBCC membership (e.g., managing the process of reviewing new applications as well as the annual membership review) and related information such as members’ cancer grants and publications.

Organizes the annual review of shared resources (e.g., surveys, reviewing progress reports and organizing formal review sessions between shared resource Directors and the Senior and Program Leadership).

Is primarily responsible for preparations for the annual External Scientific Advisory Board meeting. This position oversees the Research Support Unit, comprised of the SBCC Grants Manager and a to-be created position of a Research Development Specialist (to assist with scientific writing and identification of funding for SBCC members).

The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that all programs are receiving the needed administrative support for their meetings, retreats, seminars and other research activities.

Work with the AD for Finance & Administration and Program Leaders to identify new collaborative research opportunities and mechanisms to support them (e.g., grants) and participate in the development and implementation of projects as appropriate.

Oversee the Cancer Center operations management including space management, equipment maintenance and updates, and other operational aspects for executive administration and research areas.

Serves as a liaison to IT staff for CCSG data tables, research needs, etc. Ensure that required data is collected and reported accurately for our internal and external reviewers, including the NCI.

Will have at least one direct report with the anticipation of additional staff that comes with department growth.

Other duties as assigned by the AD for Finance & Administration.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
