Position Description – Film Buyer

Broad Description of Duties:

The Film Buyer will be responsible for obtaining feature film product for all assigned theatres and to intelligently program that product to deliver maximum box office performance in all assigned theatres. The film buyer will also have the ability to research and judge the relative worth of all available feature film product, and the ability to research and learn the marketplace specifics (competitive landscape, demographics, and historic performance) for all assigned theatres.

This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Film and will interface directly with associates in theatre operations departments.

Essential Functions/Job Duties:

• Review film product and research projected box office and prior comparable titles to book the appropriate

number of screens for new openers in order to maximize revenue. Advance plan bookings to allow for

anticipated needs;

• Negotiate to obtain desired titles, print counts, and scheduling to maximize revenue results for all

assigned theatres;

• Negotiate holdovers and scheduling with distributors each Monday and communicate bookings to locations each Monday;

• Communicate company policy and procedures to theatre management;

• Maintain positive relationships with theatre managers and their teams;

• Tour and evaluate company-owned and competitive theatres for market analysis;

• Keep informed of industry market results, new technology, attendance trends and economic conditions;

• Create and maintain productive relationships with film suppliers and their teams;

• Program all film titles and alternate content into Radiant eBooking software;

• Enter and publish preliminary bookings for upcoming week;

• Enter advance placement bookings in Radiant to authorize advance ticket sales;

• Negotiate studio authorized V.P.F. counts, fill out V.P.F. report weekly, and verify to correct any discrepancies;

• Represent Film Department and provide business growth tactics and annual industry data to strategic planning

meetings (rotating assignment)

Job Requirements:

· Occasional out-of-state travel to industry functions and meetings may be required;

· Travel to Marcus theatre locations and to company functions and meetings is required;

· The Film Buyer is expected to maintain contact with company executives and other field personnel outside of office hours in order to quickly react to any market changes as they occur;

· A minimum of five (5) years industry experience is required;

· A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in theatre management or in studio distribution is preferred

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, and/or walk occasionally. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work is performed in a theatre or remote environment. The noise level is usually low to moderate with an occasional loud environment. Mask is required at all times except when working alone in an office. Education Required:

· A BA/BS degree is preferred, but not required
