Job Responsibilities THIS IS A RE-POSTED VACANCY.

Serves as the SCDPS facilities and grounds safety officer for all SCDPS locations Assures that SCDPS facilities safety training is up-to-date for applicable personnel (facilities management, custodial, warehouse, etc.) Identifies all necessary training needed.

Conducts Job Safety Analysis and PPE Assessments as needed.

Assures HAZCOM is up-to-date and published for all facilities.

Responsible for assuring chemical inventories are known statewide, Safety Data Sheets are accurate and inventories are properly labeled and stored.

Alerts supervisor of chemicals that need to be disposed of and identifies proper method for disposal.

Assures that safety processes are accurate, evacuation maps are current and safety and response team is current and trained.

Assures that Blythewood headquarters safety drills are complete throughout the year (fire, earthquake, severe weather/tornado) and that plans are in place for field offices.

Completes facilities safety inspections statewide (all properties leased and owned). Inspections of safety equipment onsite is required and shall be documented.

Travel to all sites is required on a quarterly basis.

In conjunction with facilities management, assures contracted safety inspections, such as fire systems are carried out and any issues resolved.

Assures all safety vendors are updated annually or as needed for proper event contacts (i.e.

alarm system monitoring). Chairs the safety and response team for Blythewood.

Holds quarterly safety and response team meetings, assures the team is staffed and is involved during drills.

Provides periodic safety communications for publishing to supervisor.

May be asked to assist facilities management and CALEA accreditation team with tasks from time-to-time.

Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirements - A high school diploma and experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs.

A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, mathematics, public health, engineering or a related technical field may be substituted for the required work experience.

Agency Requirements Must posses a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, and have at least three (3) years of experience in occupational safety and health programs.

Additional Requirements Solid Knowledge of applicable safety rules, regulations, and laws specifically toward general industry.

(SCDPS operates two warehouses, a fleet shop, and offices statewide). Strong knowledge of typical occupational safety hazards, and the ability to identify deficiencies and resolutions of those deficiencies.

Knowledge of proper chemical storage and disposal, and HAZCOM.

Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and laws, and make solid decisions.

Must be able to communicate well in writing (writing example may be required) and verbally with multiple levels of employees and potentially the general public.

Strong Excel skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications Current OSHA certifications for general industry is highly preferred.

Additional Comments Employee works independently and cooperatively under the general supervision of the Office of Support Services Operations Manager.

Employee must be able to make sound decisions and judgements in the performance of his/her duties.

Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.

Must be able to effectively identify and resolve safety deficiencies.

Work conditions vary from indoors, outdoors, and rooftops.

Working from ladders may also be required to work on safety signage.
