Performs skilled trades work operating various heavy equipment used for maintenance of parks, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Grading Construction Crew Coordinator.

* Operates various heavy equipment as required and assists in construction of various recreation and parks projects.

* Performs machine maintenance by fueling, checking fluid levels, repairing small hydraulic lines, and changing flats.

* Transports sand, stone, gravel, and other park supplies to job site.

* Performs light grading to maintain walking trails/paths and greenways.

* Assists laborers with manual labor, when necessary, assists light and medium equipment operators.

* Operates tandem dump truck and other equipment in connection with the transportation or disbursement of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.

* Operates equipment or vehicle engaged in snow removal of recreation and parks facilities.

* Performs related work or tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and moderate experience operating heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of organization and department policies, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of organization and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances and laws; general knowledge of maintenance manual; general knowledge of timesheets and vehicle maintenance reports; thorough knowledge of operations of various industry standard equipment; general knowledge of standard office equipment and office software; ability to read maps; ability to communicate effectively with other operators; ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the general public.

Physical Requirements: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g.
