Job Description

Plant Controller

Salary Grade: 17

Essential Functions

Function as a key member of the core plant management team. Manage, direct and coordinate all plant accounting and financial reporting activities and ensure financial integrity of plant operations.

Responsibilities

Management/Analysis:

Provide financial direction/support to plant manager/core management team

Provide financial analysis to monitor spending in key areas (labor, scrap, spending, inventory, etc.)

Become active participant in plant/operations via meetings, interaction with employees, walk the floor, etc.

Establish, monitor and enforce internal controls and ensure compliance with division policies and procedures

Develop and drive cost reduction/elimination programs/ideas

Review and coordinate plant budget/forecasts with plant management team

Prepare and review plant capital spending requests/projects

Reporting/Accounting:

Accurate and timely financial reporting of plant results (monthly, quarterly, annually)

Develop annual plant budget and periodic forecasts (as necessary)

Input and review product segment statistical allocations

Preparation and control of plant balance sheet

Physical inventory reporting/coordination

Prepare various financial models, as appropriate; prepare and review various account

reconciliations

General ledger maintenance/transactional processing/journal entry creation

Specific Duties:

Develop and direct plant management through cost/benefit analysis and other plant financial initiatives

Assist Operations Accounting Manager with division-based projects and provide reporting support, as required

Prepare and review project request (CEAV) for plant spending/capital.

Analyze plant labor, scrap, operational spending and inventory transactions for optimal manufacturing levels

Oversee month-end close activities (create/post financial/statistical journal entries, prepare standard financial and operational reports, analyze/explain operational activities/related variances, analyze/report monthly plant performance)

Review freight, purchase account coding and various other reports/data for exceptions and accuracy

Prepare various summary reports, as needed

Monitor PO account, cost/profit center codings

Monitor and review asset additions, transfers and disposals. Ensure complete and accurate supporting documentation

Process debit/credit memo transactions (customer returns/claims, scrap/regrind shipments) and inter-company transfers

Review and confirm A/P voucher batches as supplied by corporate A/P

Maintain statistical model for product segment allocations and analysis

Assist plant operations in achieving A/P efficiency targets

Prepare, review and present annual and quarterly operational budgets and profit projections

Prepare sales and use tax returns and provide support for federal and state income/property tax returns, as applicable

Oversee payroll and petty cash functions

Ability to get involved in plant operations (layout of plant floor, major fixed assets, products mix, key customers, direct and indirect labor requirements, etc.)

Ability to work under pressure and interact with others

Ability to meet/exceed deadlines

Ability to disseminate data and make timely decisions

Occasional travel by car and/or plane

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

SAP R/3 experience (FI, CO, MM and PP modules) preferred

Proficiency in Excel and Windows applications

Experience/Education

Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting with three to seven years of financial-related experience

Plant manufacturing and cost accounting experience preferred
