Description:

Repairs, maintains and builds carpentry related items throughout the Hospital.

Responsibilities

Acts as a member of the Fire Brigade.

Assists Crew Leader as follows:

Layout of work from blueprints, models, or verbal instructions.

Construction and maintenance of partitioned spaces.

Fabrication/installation and repairs of plastic laminates.

Fabrication, repairs, and (re) finishing of furniture.

General woodworking.

Removal/demolition of sheetrock walls as per blueprints or verbal instructions.

Removal of existing flooring other than vinyl tile.

Installation or repair of door bucks including metal and wood frames.

Installation or replacement of any type of door hinge(s).

Installation or repair of doors including metal and wood.

Construction of new or repair of existing suspended ceiling systems – black iron and wire hanging – from blueprints, models or verbal instructions.

Construction of ceilings other than suspended ceiling systems (sheetrock).

Removal of all debris.

Performs other duties as requested.

In case of a Hospital emergency, the employee must perform other duties necessary to ensure the welfare of patients, staff, visitors, and the efficient operation of the Medical Center.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum three (3) years of experience in carpentry, woodworking, and building construction (structural), and maintenance (finishing).

Other hands on repair experience may be substituted.

Knowledge and Skills:

Good interpersonal skills.

Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.

Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
