Job Overview:

Primarily responsible for qualification of corrosion inhibitors using a variety of corrosion testing techniques. In addition, this position is responsible for development of products, test procedures and the creation of technical documents. The applicant should be able to demonstrate his/her practical experience in a laboratory setting. This position requires a self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. The candidate should have a strong desire to learn about corrosion and how it applies in the oilfield industry. This is a safety sensitive position and qualified candidates are required to complete drug and alcohol testing in accordance with ChampionX Drug and Alcohol policy.

What Will You Do:

Perform work in a safe manner while identifying opportunities for improving safety

Develop novel innovations in the area of Asset Integrity

Design, conduct, and interpret laboratory tests to support key customer projects

Collaborate with other scientists, research groups, and RD&E leaders on new development projects

Interpret experimental data and communicate results clearly to peers and project teams in written reports and oral presentations

Collaborate with other departments on field qualification of products

Provide consulting on experimental design, mentoring, and work direction for junior lab scientists

Protect intellectual property, file patents, publish and/or present research findings

Position Details:

Candidate must reside in Calgary, AB or surrounding areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and experience should be at a minimum:

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a Chemical discipline and 5+ years of relevant industry experience

Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience

Ph.D. and 1+ years of relevant industry experience

In-depth knowledge/experience in corrosion chemistry

Experience in oilfield production chemicals with a background in Asset Integrity

Strong understanding of test methods for corrosion inhibitors including Rotating Cylinder Electrode, Rotating Cage Autoclave, Static Autoclave & electrochemical evaluation techniques

Product formulation/development experience from benchtop to commercialization

Proven track record of project management; excellent organizational and time management skills

Strong problem-solving skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to perform laboratory work with a breathing apparatus (SABA, SCBA)

Strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of Swagelok systems an asset

Knowledge of and experience with H2S Scavengers an asset

Ability to learn quickly and handle a fast-paced work environment

Must be able to provide balance between teamwork and independent work
