Summary of Job Duties:This requisition will be used to fill multiple positions in the Nutritional Services department at UAMS: Cashier, Cook, Food Preparation Tech, Room Service Ambassador, Dishwasher and Dietetic Tech positions.

CASHIER

The Cashier is responsible for examining documents, preparing applications, collecting taxes and fees, issuing licenses and legal documents, and collecting monies from payments and cash sales. This position is governed by state and federal law and agency policy.

COOK

The Cook collaborates with other cooks and food prep techs under the direction of the Assistant Food Production Manager to requisition, prepare, season, and cook a wide range of foods, including soups, salads and entrees for Patient Food Service.

FOOD PREPARATION TECH

The Food Prep Technician is responsible for overseeing the kitchen and food service.

ROOM SERVICE AMBASSADOR

The Room Service Ambassador is responsible for assisting patients with menu selections, and ensuring the patients receive meals and nourishments in accordance with physician prescribed diets, food allergies, and preferences. The Room Service Ambassador provides excellent customer service to ensure the department’s goals are met.

DISHWASHER (Institutional Services Assistant)

The Dishwasher (AKA Institutional Services Assistant), in conjunction with other assistants and under the direction of a supervisor, cleans dishes, the kitchen area, food preparation equipment, and utensils. The Institutional Services Assistant also removes trash while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment.

DIETETIC TECH

The Dietetic Technician is responsible for daily routines and functions in order to see that all patients receive meals in a timely fashion and the meals meet the Physician order and patient preferences. The Dietetic Technician Level I is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing nutritional programs and services in the hospital.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Cashier

High School diploma/GED plus 6 months customer service and cashier experience required.

Knowledge of Point of Sales Systems (POS)

Cook

High School Diploma or GED

One (1) year of experience in institutional cooking

Food Preparation Tech

High School Diploma or GED PLUS 6 months food service experience

Candidate must pass state abuse registry checks, drug screen, submit to a TB skin test and required immunizations or provide proof of immunizations.

Room Service Ambassador

High School diploma/GED plus computer

Basic keyboard skills and telephone etiquette skills.

Dishwasher

High School Diploma or GED.

Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Dietetic Tech

High School diploma/GED plus 2 years of experience in customer service.

Ideal candidate is team-oriented and has great customer service skills.

Must be able to work during Inclement Weather.

Must be able to work rotating Weekends and Holidays.

Responsibilities:

Cashier

Performs all transactions involving forms of payment including cash, cards, meal tickets and payroll deduct, etc.

Preparing and producing specialty drinks.

Cleans immediate work area around register as well as work unit including walls, chairs, tables, cabinets, etc.

Stocks paper goods, food items and beverages as needed

May perform other duties as assigned.

Cook

Preparing delicious meals from recipes for patients, staff and community.

Chopping, cutting and preparing meat, vegetables and other food items for consumption.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Food Preparation Tech

Accepts delivery from food supplier. Checks that all menu items are received and food item amounts are sufficient and meet appropriate temperatures.

Operates dishwasher, cleans containers, and empties garbage.

Keeps a running inventory of food and supply items in pantry and notifies Clinic Director of items to be ordered including formula, baby food, and paper supplies.

Completes daily lunch count.

Cleans the kitchen and pantry shelving area. Washes appliances, counters, and preparation areas.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Room Service Ambassador

Provides an excellent customer service experience when the patients are making menu selections.

Take food orders over the phone.

Make selections into the electronic meal selection, and updating and recording patient information.

Corrects menu choices based on meal patterns, allergies and patient preferences.

Trouble-shoots issues at the point of service affecting patient satisfaction with the food service.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Dishwasher

Washes dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans using a dishwasher or manually then places the equipment in designated storage areas.

Maintains kitchen work areas, floors, equipment, or utensils.

Uses and stores chemical and cleaning supplies.

Sorts and removes trash, placing it in designated pickup areas and clean/line garbage containers.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Dietetic Tech

Assisting patients and ensures that patients receive meals and nourishments in accordance to current diet orders and food allergens.

Proactively seeks patients’ food orders for those who did not call the call center, may have difficulty speaking, hearing or seeing, and those that may need language assistance.

Takes food orders, promptly and accurately within the constraints of the diet order, at the bedside with IPads.

Makes selections into the electronic meal selection on room service assist and house selection criteria.

Updates and records patient information from the electronic medical record, correct menu choices based on meal patterns, allergies and patient preferences while alerting the Lead Room Service Ambassadors or Supervisors to any issues.

Serves trays in a timely manner according to the departmental policies and procedures.

Accurately identifies patient and appropriate tray by using two patient identifiers.

Assesses and trouble-shoots issues at the point of service that may impact patient satisfaction.

Responds to patient requests by communicating with appropriate staff.

Retrieves trays from assigned patient units after the patients have finished their meals.

Prepares beverages following thickened policies when required.

Stocks coolers, freezers and dry storage items in the patient food area.

Stores supplies and food according to department standards.

Ensures FIFO, proper temperatures, and properly labeling standards are applied

Follows cleaning checklist and maintains a clean and organized work area

Greets customers in a courteous manner, identifying themselves by name and department, maintains eye contact and offers assistance.

Serves as a role model for other employees by modeling appropriate behaviors including taking initiative to cross-train and assist others, exhibiting flexibility, and maintaining a focus on customer service.

Demonstrates integrity, compassion, respect, and a positive attitude to co- workers, patients, visitors, and UAMS staff regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious belief, age and/or disability.
