Patient Care Technician (PCT)

Patient Services Associate (PSA)

Full-time and Part-time

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.

The Patient Services Associate (PSA) is a specifically trained member of the unit-based care team who provides both clerical and patient care support to the Patient Management Team. PSA performs tasks and duties for which they possess the competency that do not require a licensed practitioner. In the clerical support role, duties include assisting with processing of medical records for patient admission and discharge and receptionist for the nursing unit.

This posting will be used to fill multiple positions.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

PCT

High School Diploma/GED.

Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.

Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

PSA

High School Diploma/GED

One (1) or more year(s) of patient care experience

One (1) or more year(s) of clerical or data entry experience

Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.

Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

Employees in this role may be required to be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment to include N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).

Responsibilities:

PCT

Assists patients and visitors with information and issues. Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention

Obtains patient report communicates with nursing staff regarding patient care/changes in condition. Informs nurses of patient requests or complaints

Documents patient care activities/tasks, including vital signs, activities of daily life (ADL), wave tests, and input and output (I&Os)

Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities

Monitors and maintains adequate levels of supplies inside and outside of rooms. Prepares treatment rooms for examinations

Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed

Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties

May perform other duties as assigned

PSA

Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with RN regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.

Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.

Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.

Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.

Accepts directions from RNs and team members.

Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).

Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Temporary/Extra-Help positions are required to work two (2) shifts a month with a maximum of 1400 hours in a 12 month floating period. Concurrent employees work one (1) shift a month with a maximum of 1400 hours per year in a 12 month floating period.
