PURPOSE OF :

JOB

The Dispatcher will provide the highest quality service through the receiving and dispatching of requests for ambulance and van service from both our contract facilities and the general public. As appropriate, the Dispatcher takes an history, vital sign, and patient information from the calling party and relays this information to the appropriate responding crew. The Dispatcher completes all entries into the CAD system. All calls, shall have data documentation and appropriate information in the data base that our CAD system requires. The Dispatcher will use the correct time assignments to assist the crews proceed through the call. As calls are completed, the Dispatcher documents them in the data base log. EMS Dispatcher relays patient information to receiving facilities. As needed, the Dispatcher also calls employees to fill schedule openings when someone calls in sick. Call ins, and tardiness, are also documented on the appropriate forms and turned into the Operations Director.

The Dispatcher will take information from any caller with an issue, problem, or complaint and notify the Operations Director or appropriate department manager immediately.

In addition to the above duties, the P.M. Dispatcher will be responsible for entering all runs into the same CAD data base system and will also inventory the jump bags for each unit and check the paramedic boxes for expired meds. The P.M. Dispatcher will sweep and mop the dispatch offices, hallways, and restrooms nightly. Order in the work area will be the same requirements for the P.M. dispatcher

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Regularly participates in departmental educational activities and meetings.

2. Consistently provides comprehensive documentation on daily duties and other documents as necessary. They are responsible for the accurate documentation of all patient information into the billing software System.

3. Always maintains the dispatch office and all equipment in a clean and efficient working order. They shall assure a quiet, neat and well organized work environment. Keeps dispatch room clear of anyone gathering in the area unless they are a necessary part of the completion of a task and directly related to efficient service.

4. Reports to work on time, in proper uniform with appropriate A~ ID name tag.

5. Always carries all necessary permits and licenses on person, while on duty.

6. Observes proper radio procedures and phone usage as per A~ ambulance service policies and practices.

7. Proper telephone etiquette as outlined in orientation will be expected of the dispatcher at all times

8. Responds to the needs of patients of all ages, and the patients family's needs and / or request for assistance in a prompt, positive, and professional manner.

9. Demonstrates responsibility for the accepting and dispatching calls for ambulance transportation. Keeps appropriate logs and records of calls received, dispatched, and handled. Also properly documents reason for any cancelled call and logs that call as well.

10. Always assumes responsibility for professional education, knowledge of all ambulance service policies / procedures and requirements at all times.

11. Immediately notifies the Operations Director or Administrative Director, or their designee, of any accidents, injuries, complaints, or any other issues involving any other company personnel or visitors that occur.

12. Actively supports the mission, goals, and policies of A-MED Ambulance Service.

13. Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance and strict punctuality.

14. Any and all duties, that may be deemed necessary, by any member of the management team, for the employee to perform during the regular course of their duties.

Numerical ability is necessary. Good motor coordination is necessary to be able to operate all equipment located in dispatch area . ability is required to properly interpret information received from callers and accurately relay this information to the crews or van attendants as necessary REPORTS TO: Dispatch Supervisor, Operations Director, Administrative Director and Owners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Dispatcher must have completed the orientation and training as related to dispatching policies and protocols. The Dispatcher must also have a valid driver's license, and meet all criteria as set forth by our vehicle insurance carrier. The Dispatcher must have current training and completion cards for any educational requirements or licenses that olicy requires. These permits, licenses, certifications, and training must be maintained and kept current and valid at all times while employed in this capacity

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Heavy and strenuous. The Dispatcher will have the same physical demands as the job description for their training level.

Manual and finger dexterity is necessary to reach for, handle, lift, and carry supplies, equipment, and patients. Talking and hearing ability is necessary to interact and communicate with crews on the radio, clients on the phone, and others as necessary. Visual activity is required for observation and inspection of the dispatch office

MENTAL DEMANDS:

Heavy and exacting. Must use good judgment when establishing priorities in dispatching calls.

WORKING REQUIREMENTS:

The dispatcher must be able to work in either a well lighted or lighting diminished area. Must be able to perform in all temperatures and climates. Must be able to work in an environment where phone calls and radio calls may be occurring simultaneously. Must be able to handle all circumstances as related to dispatch during severe weather or emergency conditions created by power outages or system failures.

DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHER PERSONNEL:

Responsible for keeping track of on duty vehicles at all times. Assigns calls to crews as needed and monitor the progress made through out the call. They must monitor acceptable on scene times and response times.

PATIENT CONTACT:

The Dispatcher may be called upon to evaluate the physical or mental condition of co-workers or visitors to the office building. In this situation, their major function is to quickly enlist care from trained personnel. Observation of the situation and gathering information for the trained professional until help arrives and other necessary actions to obtain care on site.

OTHER CONTACTS:

Must be able to interact favorably with nurses, physicians, emergency department and other hospital staff, family members, police, fire, and other emergency services personnel via phone. Must frequently apply the ability to influence and motivate others to obtain willing acceptance, consent, and actions.
