Role Summary:

Free People is seeking a Temporary Designer for Free-est Soft Wovens to contribute to the overall line plan needs based off monthly trend direction from the Managing Design Director for Free-est. The Designer actively participates in designing seasonal collections, sewing/ mocking original ideas for key meetings, and supports the team to ensure that designs and resulting product are cohesive and appropriate for the Free People customer.

3 Month Contract - Full Time On Site, Beginning June/July 2024

Role Responsibilities:

Research, Ideate and Design seasonal collections with flexibility across a variety of soft woven products in collaboration with Design Leadership and partners within Design.

Recognize and accurately forecast fashion and cultural trends and understand how they relate to the Free People customer.

Develop and present creative ideas and respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions.

Creative Vision: Demonstrate the vision to identify trends in their early stages and understand their impact to fashion, so we can be one step ahead for the aspirational customer.

Expertise in taking aspirational ideas, focusing on the key details and make them work for a broader audience.

Ability to research and report on industry trend direction, color direction, and fabric innovations approximately 9-12 months ahead of season.

Effectively use Procreate and PhotoShop for the CADing of design work and presentations.

Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with Designers, Buyers and other Cross Functional partners.

Ability to drape, mock/sew and sketch.

Experience in Ai Design programs welcomed but not required.

Role Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design or related field preferred.

Strong understanding of the Free People customer and ability to articulate the brand’s DNA and aesthetic within the Free-est brand.

Ability to articulate ideas clearly and inspire.

Previous experience or knowledge of woven apparel construction.

Knowledge of fabric and trims

Knowledge of fabric treatments as well as wash and dye techniques

Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes

Ability to hand sketch and communicate design ideas via Procreate and PhotoShop.

Ability to clearly communicate to overseas vendors.

Ability to drape & sew garments.

Knowledge of pattern making.

Ability to be on-site 5 days per week in Philadelphia, PA
