SUMMARY:

Manages, coordinates, and directs the day-to-day operations of assigned laboratory divisions and/or buildings to include employee activities up to/but not limited to human resource performance and development, business planning, strategic planning, and project management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include any or all the following. Other duties may be assigned by management.

1. Oversees day-to-day operations of various departments and/or buildings on shift.

2. Meets and communicates with staff to address any /all concerns on shift.

3. Develops strategy plan and sets goals to assist nightly operations run smoothly.

4. Controls budgets and optimize expense.

5. Ensures employees are motivated and assists in development of growth opportunities. Fosters and maintains positive work environment.

6. Manages production in various laboratory areas. (Pre-Analytical and Post) ensuring work is completed on scheduled shift. Resolves issues as they arise on shift and/or escalating to appropriate management.

7. Recruits, trains, and onboards new employees.

8. Collects, reviews, and analyzes data to reduce inefficiencies and waste and presents to various department management for review/approval.

9. Creates or directs preparation of reports to present to various management teams in reference to process.

10. Identifies process improvement opportunities. Communicates and meets with management on different shifts to review process improvement opportunities, employee concerns and goal metrics.

11. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of, adheres to, and accurately completes work according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

12. Troubleshoots multiple areas of the laboratory and escalate to appropriate management as applicable. Plans, designs, and recommends of new and/or improved laboratory techniques.

13. Reviews data in efforts to recognize and resolve issues.

14. Ensures compliance of laboratory safety program. Performs routine safety checks.

15. Demonstrates understanding of all duties and responsibilities of various areas and when applicable serves a specialist. Performs tasks as employees while having authority to manage co-workers/employees in the absence of direct management.

16.Actively participates in the Continuous System Improvement (CSI) and continuing education programs.

17.Any/all tasks delegated from management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Education/Experience:

Technician and/or Technologist

Combination of education and no less than 5 years supervisory/management experience in various areas of clinical lab environment.

Knowledge of both Pre-Analytical and Post a Plus.

B. Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze. And interpret common journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, clients, regulatory agencies or members of the community. Must demonstrate patience, tact and a cheerful disposition.

C. Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure and to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

D. Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret variety of instructions and deal with concrete variables.

E. Computer Skills:

Ability to use Microsoft office products and various software products including the Laboratory Information System.

F. Certificates and Licenses:

Certification/License by a recognized certifying agency for a clinical laboratory professionals preferred.
