Overview:

Wage Range: $18.28-$28.58

Works under the direct supervision of the Emergency Services Registered Nurses.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:

1. Keeping patients and family informed within the Department and Lobby about delays and their status related to diagnostic studies being performed at least 15 (Fifteen) minutes per patient until discharge.

2. Documenting on an Emergency Tech Flow Sheet communication between patients and family members and their response to such communication.

3. Cleaning and preparing patient treatment areas to speed up turn-around-times between discharge and admission of new patients.

4. Stocking of patient treatment areas.

5. Daily treatment area checks for supplies that are reaching out-dates.

6. Assisting nursing staff with dressing and splinting.

7. When appropriate, taking discharge vital-signs and providing discharge instructions to patient waiting discharge.

1. Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) when appropriate.

2. Maintains a constant awareness of communication issues between staff and patients in providing care in the GSMC Emergency department and demonstrates this in decisions related to communications with patients, family members and ED staff. Conveys empathy and compassion to patients and family members.

C. Procedures, Processes, and Skills:

Maintains a thorough knowledge of patient confidentiality, and exercises judgment and genuine concern for patient’s and family members to be kept informed during their visit. Communicates effectively with medical providers. Reports to the nursing staff complaints and concerns and or changes in a patient’s condition. Works in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation. Communicates effectively with people regardless of ethnic or socioeconomic backgrounds. Confirms patient understanding of process and facilitates communication between provider and patient. Follows Medical Center principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates that knowledge in assisting patients within GSHCS policies and procedures. Complies with adopted department policies and procedures.

D. Safety:

1. Maintains and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans.

2. Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients, guests, and staff.

1. Uses customer relations skills of differentiation, compassionate listening, and knowledge of the change/transition process in situations involving emotions, life/death transition, and/or conflict.

2. Maintains harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients, and guests.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/ Certification: High School diploma or GED. EMT or Certified Nursing Assistant, and current BLS.

Experience: One year or more of experience in a health care or human services setting preferred.

License: EMT Basic or CNA Certification license as required by State of Oregon.

Job Knowledge: Must demonstrate an ability to take vital signs and give basic discharge instructions. Must be familiar with infection control and sterile technique. Knowledge of medical terminology and Hospital policies and protocols required. Bi-lingual skills desired.

Skills Required: Must have excellent customer service and communication skills.

Physical Requirements: Good general health. Must be able to Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear. Express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes. Extend arms and hands in any direction. Seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands. Pick pinch or otherwise work with fingers. Perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture. Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds (Rarely 100 pounds) with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to distinguish colors.

Working Conditions: Generally an Inside environment however must be able to leave the department and assist patients into the hospital when appropriate. Subject to frequent exposure to infection and contagious diseases and hazardous materials. Occasionally subject to combative patients. Variable noise levels.
