Position Description

As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for working within the framework of a team and performing the following activities:

Install, test, maintain, migrate, and/or consolidate data center software.

Monitor vendor sites for new releases, patches, and product announcements.

Install, test, maintain, and repair data center hardware, such as physical servers, storage, networking equipment, telecommunications, and peripherals.

Monitor and maintain the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.

Maintain security of assigned hardware, software, and network systems.

Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required; configure CPU, memory and disk partitions as required.

Work with team members, technical staff, and vendors to perform or assist with diagnosing and resolving errors, malfunctions, and disaster recovery of assigned systems.

Coordinate all planned activities with team members and the IT department, as appropriate.

Develop and provide technical training and support; provide backup to department staff as needed.

Prepare and maintain documentation, records, and reports related to assigned systems, service requests, project status and assisted activities.

Integrate equipment and ensure adaptation within existing IT infrastructure.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

Zero to two years of System Administration experience.

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

Any combination equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.

Possession of technology certificate(s), such as Microsoft including MCSE, M365F, MCAF, MCASEA, MCAA, VMware including VCP, VCTA, VCAP, VCDX, Cisco including CCNA, CCNE, CCNP, CCIE, CCSP, CISSP, CompTIA A+, and ITIL.

Experience working with deployment, configuration and maintenance of any, or all, of the following: SANs, Cisco switches, Microsoft Windows servers, Red Hat Linux servers, Microsoft SQL databases, Oracle databases, Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Windows and MAC OSX, VMware technologies, SAP.

Scripting proficiency to automate repetitive tasks or integrate systems such as PowerShell, Shell, bash, python, Perl or other methods.

Experience with backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) technologies and concepts such as Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO).

Experience with writing or creating run-books, architecture diagrams, testing and validation plans for business continuity and high-availability.

Experience with load balancing technologies and concepts such as L4 transport redirection, L7 content switching, global service load balancing, etc.

Experience with managed print services including print jobs, queue, spooling, etc.

Experience with technical deep dives into system performance bottlenecks.

Experience with monitoring tools and frameworks including Solarwinds, Splunk, Elk, etc.

Knowledge of data center and cloud-connected infrastructure, including hyper-converged systems, servers, routers, NAS/SAN systems, switches including physical and software-defined, firewalls, web and spam filters, load balancers, server and desktop virtualization, and cloud computing.

Knowledge of data center software, including operating systems including Microsoft Windows and Linux/UNIX, patches, virus protection, Microsoft Office platforms such as SharePoint and Teams, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Microsoft Exchange, ID management systems, and databases including Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Postgress.

Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) service processes Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and best practices.

The ability to work independently with little direction.

The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
