The Infection Control Perioperative Registered Nurse is a Registered Nurse who, under the immediate supervision of the Operating Room Clinical Coordinator, is responsible for the safety of the patients while in the OR and assists with the supervision of nonprofessional personnel in the unit. The Perioperative Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the delivery of individualized nursing care to patients having surgical intervention. Incorporating current clinical knowledge with established nursing practice, he/she performs nursing interventions utilizing the nursing process. By assessment of the individual patient and procedure, he/she anticipates the needs of the surgical team and provides such services while maintaining an aseptic and safe environment.

Responsibilities:

Collects, interprets, records, and communicates pertinent data that are relative to the patient’s care in surgery.

Utilizes data collected to plan for intra-operative nursing care.

Assumes responsibility and accountability for the safety and administration of quality care to each patient in order to meet their physical, psychological, and psychosocial needs.

Continuously evaluates the patient’s response to nursing interventions and modifies the plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.

Supervises and directs patient care in an individual operating room.

Provides guidance and supervision to ancillary nursing staff.

Assumes responsibility for the knowledge and operation of all technical and mechanical operative equipment, including a thorough knowledge of components and accessories, safety features, and cleaning techniques.

Records and documents accurately all nursing operative records to include but not limited to: intro-operative record, sponge, sharp and instrument counts, specimen data, consents, specimen data supply usage and case history data.

Qualifications:

Graduate of accredited school of nursing

State licensure as Registered Nurse required.

Knowledge and experience in perioperative care of the surgical patient in ambulatory surgery

BLS, ACLS qualified

Ability to handle stressful work environment; comfortable performing a variety of projects in conjunction with normal activities

Organization and problem-solving skills, proficient with Microsoft application

Ability to read and interpret documents such as doctor’s notes

Excellent customer service
