We have an exciting new opportunity and are currently looking to add to our berthing and maintenance team. This position is for a Welder supporting Naval Base San Diego. Job Requirements:

Weld metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as barge structure, parts, equipment, fixtures (including stainless steel counters and fixtures), railings, and ladders according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment

Weld metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.

Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding

Repair broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts

Apply knowledge of welding standards and how various metals and alloys such as different kinds of steel, aluminum, nickel, brass, copper, bronze, magnesium, beryllium, and titanium react to different welding processes and techniques

Weld metal parts and structures that may vary in size, shape, and thickness from very thin (for example, .025 inches or less) to very thick (for example, stainless steel plating), requiring multiple welding passes, and weld dissimilar metals such as copper to steel

Skilled in making welds that require complete penetration as well as complete fusion of base and filler metals even when welding in hard-to-reach places

As needed, devise special jigs and fixtures to hold the parts to be welded

Use techniques such as preheating, heat sinks, and stress relieving to maintain specified dimensions and to prevent distortion or burning of the parts being welded

Incidental to the welding work, also applies a knowledge of several related trade procedures, for example, brazing, soldering, flame and arc cutting, surface hardening, annealing, and metal spraying.

Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment, flame-cutting equipment, brazing and soldering equipment and welding machines

Operate metal shaping machines; metal straightening and bending machines

Use of hand tools, portable power tools and manually operated machine tools

Shaping, bending, fabricating, fitting and assembling techniques

Use of rigging and hoisting equipment

Additional tasks and duties as may be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience

Able to pass a weld certification course.

Works well independently or as a member of a work team.

Requires little or no supervision or checks during the progress of his/her work assignments.

The physical job requirement involves, but is not limited to, walking, reaching, bending-over, concentration in the presence of noise, lifting items up to 50 lbs., and traversing narrow passageways, climbing ladders/stairs, and operating in confined spaces onboard naval vessels and barges and in buildings.
