Senior Cost Accountant

A client of ours is looking for a Senior Cost Accountant for a contract role. As the Senior Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for performing cost analyses and preparing budget reports. The ideal candidate should possess excellent analytical skills, the ability to combine different data and calculate profit margins as well as create detailed reports that present cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities of Senior Cost Accountant

Determine fixed costs (e.g. salaries, rent and insurance)

Analyze and report profit margins

Prepare (monthly, quarterly, and annual) cost forecasts

Identify and recommend cost-effective solutions

Assist in month-end and year-end closing

Prepare budget reports (for the company and for each department)

Participate in all aspects of cost assessment, cost allocation and profitability analysis

Construct data accumulation systems

Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies

Collect cost information and maintain an expenses database

Plan and record variable costs (e.g. purchases of raw material and operations costs)

Participate in all aspects of cost assessment, cost allocation and profitability analysis

Skills/Qualifications of Senior Cost Accountant

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or related field

5+ years’ experience in cost accounting

Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail

Proven work experience as Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Accountant, or similar role

Advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel including familiarity with VLOOKUPs and pivot tables

In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, as well as excellent communication skills.

Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, FreshBooks and Zoho
