The Program Coordinator is responsible for the management of events and programs for the Business and Career Center at BPL. They supervise a team of outreach specialists to ensure the smooth delivery and effective promotion of programs and services that serve the economic and financial needs of BPL users. The Program Coordinator manages the PowerUP business plan competition, oversees the BKLYN Fashion Academy and all other B&CC special initiatives. They work closely with B&CC librarians to develop and deliver a host of public programs and special projects at the Business & Career Center and other locations. Identifying and developing advantageous relationships with community-based partners and City agencies that can deliver informational programs is a critical part of their work. Promotion of the B&CC’s programs and services to the community at large is the responsibility of the Program Coordinator. They are also responsible for the management and programming of event and meeting room spaces in the Business and Career Center to ensure full and active public participation. The Program Coordinator supervises and works closely with a team of program and outreach specialists, part time and temporary staff.

Responsibilities

Manages the PowerUP Business Plan Competition, including its promotion; communication with and management of participants; coordination of teachers and judges; arrangements for judging; planning of award ceremony and working with and reporting to funders.

Works closely with B&CC librarians to create, calendar and deliver programs for entrepreneurs, investors and job seekers in the Business & Career Center and in BPL branches.

Calendar regular services and series in the B&CC spaces; ensure full and active public participation.

Identifies and develops relationships with community organizations and government agencies to deliver business and career programs at BPL.

Responsible for all logistics for events and programs; manages staff to ensure speakers’ needs, catering, and tech equipment are taken care of.

Works with BPL Marketing Department to create and disseminate promotional information and outreach materials to the public and partner organizations in print and online;

Supervises and supports staff responsible for administering the BKLYN Fashion Academy and other initiatives.

Trains and supervises B&CC Program staff

Develops annual work plan, establishes goals, and coordinates workflow of Program staff

Represents B&CC at major programs; provides an overview of services, is the liaison to the organization and introduces speakers

Working with the Manager of B&C Service, creates process and policy for room reservations in the B&CC; works with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate needs and balance demands.

Provides support for the coordination of special projects relating to outreach services as needed.

Ensures the maintenance of mailing lists, management of program registration, listing of events online, and recording of statistics are handled by B&CC staff.

Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

5 years experience in non-profit outreach or marketing

A minimum of three years demonstrated supervisory & management experience

Event management experience

Outreach experience, knowledge of economic development organizations, ability to build effective working relationships with community-based partners

Facility with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and project management tools like Asana

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, identify and assess problems and decisively implement appropriate solutions

Must strive to maintain positive internal and external customer service relationships with patrons and partner organizations

Demonstrate respect and sensitivity for cultural differences and treat people with respect

Ability to organize, prioritize, and establish efficient work processes

Leadership - inspires and motivates others to perform well

Delegation skills – plan, assign & monitor delegated activities

Ability to work collaboratively and on cross-functional teams

Involvement in professional organizations preferred

Physical Demands

Travel to other locations and non-library locations required

Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

This is a non-union, exempt position with a salary range of $74,000 - $82,000.
