The Role

The Production and Operations Lead is responsible for the management of BuzzFeed Canada’s creative infrastructure across both editorial and branded operations. This position works closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that programs are executed efficiently and in scope. This position also focuses on the development and maintenance of processes to ensure team optimization and smooth internal workflows.

The position is based in Toronto and has a one-year contract. We offer competitive compensation, and a super collaborative, entrepreneurial work environment.

You Will

Responsible for the overall health of BuzzFeed Canada’s creative operations, including the building of internal systems, and the adoption and enforcement of those already in place

Manage incoming pre- and post-sale branded deals, working with Sales and Client Services to track and ensure they remain in scope as they make their way through the sales pipeline

Advise the local sales and client services teams on production and event costs.

Oversee internal creative resources, trafficking, and coordination of incoming requests and communication for job allocation

Provide transparency into team utilisation, workload capacity, and pipeline

Track branded and editorial projects from pitch to delivery

Advise local staffers and freelancers on best production practices

Wrap-delivered projects, adhering to Legal and Finance best practices

Identify scalable solutions, including the creation and/or implementation of tools and processes to improve the internal productivity of the business in Toronto

Oversee the hiring of freelance production and post-production personnel and production companies, including the negotiation of budgets, drafting of scopes of work, and approval and submission of contracts and invoices

Manage local internal operations for existing and new creative product offerings in the development of workflows and processes

Problem-solve between inter-departmental teams on a daily basis

Assist with overall production and post-production needs

Work with internal teams to build and maintain a network of freelance production and post-production support, and to ensure smooth workflow and payment for any freelancers engaged over the course of a project

Work closely with the Sr Director of Global Production & Operations in New York and other BuzzFeed International stakeholders on ongoing in-market creative initiatives

Collaborate closely with Client Services, Creative, Research, Production, Sales, Legal, and Distribution teams throughout the life cycle of a project

Work closely with local Distribution Lead packaging up programs for launch

Basic administration and database requirements – setting up programs using internal processes and systems

You Have

5-6 years of experience at an agency or competitive media or publishing company

Advanced knowledge of video pre-production, production, and post-production, including workflows and processes, equipment, and software programs/tools

Proven analytical and creative problem-solving skills

An ability to come up with unique solutions to complex problems

Solution-oriented approach and ability to thrive in a fast-paced and fluid environment, as well as situations of ambiguity and uncertainty

History of innovative, strategic thinking and planning skills

Calm under pressure – able to organize & manage a high volume of work

Able to manage communications across multiple time zones

Ability to work with many styles of executives, communicators, program managers, and subject matter experts, both at the corporate and business levels

Knowledge of marketing and video branding is a must
