Job Description

The primary function of a Caregiver is to assist the client with companionship, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping and activities of daily living. The Caregiver is to provide assistance as outlined in the Client’s Service Plan. Any Caregiver questions or requests from the client that are outside of the Client’s Service Plan must be referred to your franchise office. Specific employment policies are outlined in the Touching Hearts at Home Employee Handbook.

Each Touching Hearts at Home Employee WILL:

• Account for time and expenses in the manner required

• Return calls and emails in the time period required by management. • Respect the client's property.

• Be neat and appropriately dressed.

• Perform all duties as outlined on Client Service Plan and/or as directed by management. • Keep their business and their personal lives separate.

• Respect the client’s privacy and will only discuss a case with authorized personnel.

Services Provided by Touching Hearts at Home Caregivers:

Companionship

Provide respectful, friendly interactions. Assist with hobbies/crafts as requested by the Client. Accommodate any reading or writing activities needed or requested. Demonstrate appropriate Caregiver services when assisting in social and/or entertaining activities. Example: Taking a client to a wedding or social function.

Any special thing that you can do to help put your client at ease and begin to build your relationship will enrich both of your lives. Perhaps you enjoy gardening or playing cribbage. Your client may enjoy these same activities. Make them feel special. Your time is valuable to them and to their family.

Meal Preparation

Provide assistance with grocery shopping, meal planning and preparation as deemed appropriate in the Client’s Service Plan.

Laundry

Provide laundry assistance as outlined in the Client’s Service Plan. This would also include changing of linens.

Transportation

Provide transportation for errands, doctor appointments and any other arrangements as outlined in the Client’s Service Plan.

Light Housekeeping

Monitor home and assist clients with arrangements for maintenance needs. Some examples include:

• Kitchen: Wash dishes, clean counters, sweep/vacuum floor, mop/wash floor, take out garbage/recycling, clean refrigerator; wipe down stove/microwave etc.

• Bathroom: Clean tub, sink, toilet, wash/vacuum floor.

• Living Room: Dust furniture, dust/vacuum floor, tidy area.

• Bedrooms: Making beds, change linens, dust furniture, vacuum floors, and tidy areas Personal Care and Grooming

Assist the client with activities of daily living while respecting the client’s privacy and encouraging independence. Examples include:

• Bathing, Shaving, Grooming and Dressing

• Hair, Skin and Mouth Care

• Assistance with Ambulation and Transferring

• Meal Preparation and Feeding

• Toileting

• Assist with Self-Administered Medications

Things Caregiver May Not Do

Listed below are examples of services we do not provide. If you find that your client has asked you for help with one of these items listed below please inform your franchise office with the details.

What we cannot do as a non-medical service

• You cannot lift or transfer a client. If a fall occurs you may not pick them up. • You may not set up medication in pill boxes or take pills out of jars to administer. • You may not provide any type of invasive care such as insulin shots or blood sugar testing.

• You may not change bandages, clean wounds or clip any nails.

• Caregivers may not lift more than 25 pounds.

• Caregivers may not climb on any ladder, stool, etc. more than 2 feet off the ground.

Probationary Period: Each new employee will complete an Introductory (Probationary) period to last 180 days (6 months).

Wage:

Pay Range - $11.00 to $14.00 per hour

Probationary Period - $11.00 - $11.50 per hr.

After Successful Completion of Probationary Period – pay rate determined by caregiver seniority, experience, difficulty of client’s serviced, number of hours weekly availability, dependability and adherence to company policies and procedures. Weekend Stipend – Additional $1.00 per hr.
